A man walks into a bar and asks the bartender for a case of beer, any kind except Schlitz. The bartender says "What's wrong with Schlitz, don't you like it?" The man says, "I hate that shit. Last night I drank a whole case of Schlitz and blew chunks. The bartender says, "You drink a case of any beer you're going to blow chunks." "You don't understand;" says the man, "Chunks is my dog."

    hey guys, quick question...

Light weight fly wheel... Yes or no for offroading??? I dont need more acceleration, but want better offroading....

Hmm not sure, ultimatly all that matters is what kind of abuse it can take... I would go with a clutch that you can slip easier though (aka non puck style).

    Awesome lol.

I think the general consensus is the heavier is better for offroading, it keeps the engine turning, more stored energy in the flywheel (i.e. rotational mass) for slow low speed situation.

I am just curious if anyone has any experiance with them as well as the URD clutches.

Well technically wouldn't it only affect higher rpm ranges, or am I thinking opposite?

It actually would affect all RPMS. With a heavier fly wheel it would feel as if the truck had less engine breaking (more stored energy in the flywheel) and the truck would slow down slower than a lighter fly wheel.

That being said, at idle or just off idle a heavier flywheel will actually do better offroad because the stored energy will help move the vehicle along better and have less chance of bogging and stalling the engine once the clutch is locked up.

A lighter weight flywheel will let the engine accelerate and decelerate faster but will be much more touchy just off idle and on/off throttle. The heavier one has that extra wieght and stored energy to transfer to the driveline to get the truck moving where the light weight one will require more RPMs and clutch slippage until the vehicle is at a speed you can let it all the way out but will be noticably quicker on acceleration and deceleration.

I am wondering what the affects are based on increased wheel/tire weight and then going to a lighter weight fly wheel. I bet it will require quite a bit more slip from a stop than a heavier/stock one.

Well yea, they are mainly looking for better acceleration.
