I disassembled my center console today out of boredom and came across this connector. What does it connect?

Not right now. But the wires pass next to the shifter and go up into the dash. the light was fading so I couldn't trace them very far. What you're looking at is a top down view and the connector is next to the driver's seat.

I'm thinking it might be for the power inverter, but that's just a shot in the dark.

I'm fairly certain that the button that you're talking about frees up the shifter it it ever gets stuck.

My Matrix had that. Check your owner's manual to be sure. It should be listed under Transmission.

What I find interesting is that you're tearing your truck apart just because you're bored. Seems like a strange and possibly expensive (if you tear up something) way to entertain yourself.

That's the only way to learn how something works, and how to fix it when/if there's a problem.
