Hey guys new here and looking to get my first truck :) decided with the tacoma.
Looking at getting one within the years 2005-2011, was there a 'good' year? Edit: Most likely will be a 2wd Access Cab (Prerunner?). It'll be a daily driver with some mild offroading now and then. Thanks

    they are all "good" years

2005 had a engine mount issue that was fixed for 2006

2009+ have the LED tail lights and 2009+ sport models and xrunner have smoked headlights and a smoked grill. 2009+ also have a different ECU which is not tune-able with the products from URD (yet, they are working on it)

2011 have a different grill design

2012 have an entire different front end

Interiors are also different. I was at the dealer yesterday getting mine serviced, and decided to take a look at the new and used Tacos they had on the lot. There are some subtle changes in the interior between different years and different packages. Then the 2012, IMO, is a bigger change with a different steering wheel and optional enTune system.

Yeah I'd go with 09-11, these years also have the reinforced tailgate. 2011 or low mileage 2010 would def be your best bet if you can get a good deal on one.

screw all that vsc crap and electronics the newer models have.

OP do your research good. Check all the TSB's and make sure they were performed on the truck your looking to buy or use them to your advantage when making offers if they haven't been fixed.

Having a 2009 , I agree with this unknown poster above , if there is one thing I could do without on my truck , it's the VSC system , especially if you intend on lifting your truck .

    I would say , get a 2008

Hmm first time I've seen this TSB issue, I'll have to research that some more. Actually got to test drive the 08 crew cab today.. I fell in love instantly:thumbsup:. Still debating on Crew cab or access cab though. Thanks guys, keep 'em coming if you have something to add I'll be watching!
