I am looking to get an ARB front bumper for my TRD once the 2012's become available. I take old forest service roads to get to a lot of trailheads in the PNW, some extra protection up front would be great. I have nul experience in the world of modified trucks so please accept my noobery.

I am trying to get a ballpark idea dollar wise what it would take to get an ARB bumper installed with any other mods needed to compensate for the ARB. If I do this, I want to use parts that will last the life of the truck. I will happily pay the extra dough for quality. I dont want to have to worry about sagging or failures down the road.

I have seen a lot of talk about Bilstein 5100's, EMU's, and lifting. What actually needs to be done and what is a ballpark price? If anyone has the inside line on good ARB friendly shops in WA or OR it would be great to know.

    Thanks in advance!

You'd be best to upgrade the front springs/struts with OME stuff. That would set you back around $450+ install(maybe $250, or DIY), and then an alignment for around $60-80. The bumper you should be able to install with the help of a friend in around an hour or two, or pay a shop the hourly rate so maybe $150 to install that.

Unfortunately my ARB was already installed (by an idiot) on my truck when I bought it. The bumper is slightly crooked so there is a gap on the driver side, so just make sure you find a installer with aftermarket bumper experience.

Now suspension. I am running a full OME lift with 886x coils. The newer x style is supposed to be sag resistant. I have about 20000 miles on my suspension and haven't noticed any sagging. The suspension really helped the ride quality with the extra 200+ pounds over stock suspension parts

    .
The stiffer springs are needed to compensate for the additional weight of the ARB, to maintain ride height and ride quality, many folks here like the OME's as well as the 5100/eibach spring combination. The eibachs that people choose are the 886 ones. 5100's really improved the ride quality over my stock struts/shocks and i would recommend them to anyone. The front ones are adjustable but for your application probably setting them at '0 would be fine. Popular vendors on this site include Down South Motor Sports and Wheeler's (who I used).

You're thinking of 885's and Billy 5100's , if you are using the 886 coils the OME shocks should be used .

Eibachs and OME coils are the same ?

I'd run a full OME lift with 886 coils, it's designed for the ARB bumper and a winch.

After having one installed on my truck, 886's are definitely recommended! I'm running 884's on 5100's and the bumper alone sagged the front end by over 1/4".

I was told by ARB and quoted by a land cruiser shop the install is 3-4 hours for the bumper. I installed OME 885 with 90000 struts up front and n421 shocks in the rear (I have 4 leaf pack in the rear) this is told level the truck and compensate for weight of bumper and winch. If anyone else has any questions about ARB products I highly recommend you contact ARB directly as I did-this must be the 20th thread titled "questions about ARB bumper" this month. Just noticed you live in the PNW-ARB is in Renton WA.

Their U.S. Headquarters is in Renton, this is where they receive everything ARB makes from Australia and then ship to dealers from there. If you are in the Seattle are it's best to order the parts online then go and will call them from ARB. I do it anytime I order anything made by ARB.

ARB/OME makes two different springs for the Tacoma, one is for a stock to light load up to 110lbs lift (P/N 2885) and the other spring (P/N 2886) is designed for loads 110lbs to 220lbs (ARB bar and winch).

I've done three ARB bar installs and two OME suspension installs on my own. The latest OME install was to the 4Runner and that included buying a spring compressor and removing the stock top plate and reinstalling it onto the new OME shocks and spring (my shoulders still ache from that). The ARB bulbar install is fairly straight forward with the provided instructions and the number of people that have done installs here are more than willing to help you out if you have questions.

Any other questions can be directed to Marc Bowers in ARB's tech department. If you will call the parts go in and talk to him.

If you have any other questions feel free to hit me up!

So Forerunner, I see you are running a first gen. I have a 98 SR5 that I want to put an ARB bumper, and then upgrade the front suspension to handle it. I would like to go with Billie 5100s, and OME 882s ,
I have already purchased the bumper and a diff drop kit, will this grouping work ok?
Or would I be better staying all OME?
I would like to compensate for the bumper and get a slight lift (1-2") as well. :)
    Thanks

my suggestion would be if you have the tools and help and time do the bumper yourself its not really that hard. your going to save a bunch of money doing this.

for the suspension full ome kit, w dakar leaf pack they make an excellent suspension tough durable and nice riding. also that dakar leaf pack is supposed to be the shit no more sagging leaf problems.

I know you want ARB (And rightly so, I have one and it kicks ass). But the first replier there, relentless makes an aluminum bumper which is only 55-60 lbs. You could probably throw that on, get a very strong front, and not have to upgrade suspension.

EDIT: His for sale thread BTW: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/re...elentless-fab-05-tacoma-plate-bumper-buy.html

Sorry no other real input on your suspension needs. I've got 1500 worth of Icon suspension goodness up front, custom adjusted for ride and levelness and to perfectly fit my 255/85R16 tires. So not sure how to best do it on the cheap other than taking the advice of those above.

I definitely will do at least the bumper myself, but plan to maybe have the suspension done while the truck is in the shop for an oil pan replacement, might even do the rear main if it isn't 1 piece. Since the front diff will be dropped to do this repair anyway, I was thinking about getting the Bil 5100s and if I can use them with the 882- to cover the weight of the ARB bumper and still get a couple inch lift out of the deal. The thought is do all that while it is dismantled to that degree anyway. :p
So has anyone put together that combo before? I've been searching posts for about a month. Also the time window is kinda tight as I will only be stateside for about a month and want to maximize my off time by not spending it under the darn truck, then back up north and the truck goes back into storage till next spring. Yep I know it is a second gen forum but I haven't found anything close on the first gen forum.
    Thanks

I'm trying to find it but there was a recent post as to an ARB bumper install and the poster stated that 886 coils were still too stiff because he didn't have a winch. This fits my situation as I'm ordering a full OME lift with the dakar leafs and would like to upgrade to an ARB bumper but that wont happen till I hit something and have to replace the stock bumper or I save up the cash. I don't think I'll be putting on a winch.

So, what should I get 885x or 886x coils considering my future ARB bumper w/o a winch?
