Cable lock that tailgate

The hose clamp is good and I figure with the cable lock it will be better.

Get some plastic coasted cable - Lowes
High Tensile fence wire locks / links / connectors -- whatever they are called.
Loop through the tailgate under the bed and use vice grips to squeeze the cable locks closed .

I had a pop and lock on my Dodge, I thought it was junk. Not sure how they are made these days but I like the cable and hose clamp method better.

 

They are called cable ferrules.

you know for your hose clamp, i put it the other way around and tightened it up with a wrench, so hopefully it would take them even longer and think twice about stealing my tailgate. I also have the pop n lock.

Only drawback I see is if you had to remove your own tailgate for some reason. But better than losing it to some tweeked jackhole.

I used the clamp, then I added the Bully Taligate lock which uses a key to unlock. Now I have dual protection and the clamp screw is not easily accessible any more:

I like this. I have a power lock pop-lock. Should keep it in place. What are the clamps on the ends for?

 

i think the master lock tailgate lock is a lot cleaner than that bully lock and less exposed when in place. $20.

not sure the coated cable is a good idea for anyone that needs to actually remove their tailgate from time to time...

 

Combining a pop lock with a hose clamp and a master tailgate lock ought to deter the thievin' critters out there.

I was checking out the Amazon reviews on this. Someone said they put on a 2012 tacoma and that it did not work. He said he could just twist it and the tail gate came off. 3 out of 3 people gave it one star out of 5. It is not rated very well on there.

Never seen the masterlock/bully tailgate locks, I like them though. I have a pop & lock, which I'm pleased with. It could be built a little sturdier, I'm sure it could be broken with a good tug or two if you really tried, but it's definitely more secure than a hose clamp. I still usually leave the hose clamp on just incase, but I think someday I'll look into one of those other locks so I don't always have to pull out the screwdriver if I want to remove it.

You could use the ferrules to make loops at the ends, and then use a padlock to join them under the truck.
