Metra Axxess ASWC SWI Install

Question for those of you who have installed this unit. With regards to the two wires from the ASWC that need to installed to pin 7 & 8 of the Taco harness, how did you go about hooking them up? I'd prefer to not cit the wires out of the harness for a direct hook up. Didn't know if there was an alternative.

I haven't pulled the stock stereo just yet, so I'm not sure if there is a way to tie in the ASWC wires to the Taco harness without cutting them. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Mine was a non-jbl so what I did was using a utility knife and gently strip portion of outside insulation on vehicle's wires just enough so that you can wrap the wires from AXXESS around vehicle wire and solder, after that wrap around it with electrical tape,also secured the wires together with small plastic ties. Remember to connect wire pin#6(W-R) on vehicle's 20 pin plug to ground(this is the same plug with wires #7 & 8), I used same ground on vehicle's stereo plug, which is the negative- grounding.I used solder / heat shrink when possible on all my eletrical connections. keep in mind that when you do the connection between your after market stereo plug to factory adapter plug also connect your ASWC +power wire (Red wire to ACC 12volt which is also red) and Black- from ASWC to black- on vehicle's grounding.This unit is auto programing when you have it plugged into back side of your after market stereo and got all your wire connections properly made, all you have to do is turn the ignition key to on and test your control on the steering wheel.

 

Thanks for the input. That's what I figured would have to happen, but I was hoping to hear another alternative, such as another harness I didn't already know about that would keep me from cutting wires. Think I've read enough up to this point to ensure a successful install of everything. Just waiting on the Metra dash kit to come in.

 

I just cut the harness off, but left enough wire to reconnect and solder them back together if I reinstall the factory head unit. I just taped the connector to the factory head unit along with the stuff I pulled out of the truck.
