2012 Upgrading speakers

Does anyone know what power the 2012 non jbl head unit puts out? I would like to upgrade the sound by changing the speakers and keeping the factory look/BT/XM.

I am looking to get speakers with a range of 2-30 [ or 50] RMS and hoping I can get by without an amp (or the stereo cutting the bass). There are some excellent threads showing how to install the speakers on here and I follow that as the steps shouldn't have changed too much for the 2012's.

 

Every relatively recent (last decade) factory unit (without an external amp) I've ever seen tested produced between 13 & 17 Watts per channel. While I've not seen a 2012, the 2011 non-JBL was in this ball park.

 

For what it worth, I've replaced both, head and factory speakers, but not at the same time. I think the biggest difference was the head unit, not speakers. Now don't get me wrong, the speaker swap made a huge difference. The factory speakers made me laugh when I saw how flipping cheap they were.

 

Did you have any problems with getting the factory bluetooth to work? Thats my main reason for sticking with factory

 

If you want to stick with factory head unit a 50 rms speaker will be fine but if you want it to be louder look for something with a high sensitivity say ~100 Db and I'd suggest that you add something like a JL Audio CleanSweep aka a line out converter because even if you don't add a amp your after market speakers should still be able to handle most of the bass in a song decently.

 

I'm a total dumb ass, the Pioneer AHV 3200BT (blue tooth model) was $50.00 dollars more than than the 3200DVD, and I didnt opt for it. Regreted it ever since.

 

I thought a low sensitivity speaker was more efficient, needed less power to perform.

 

Nope higher the sensitivity the louder it will get with any given amount of power.
Crutchfield is the place to go for audio information.

 

It is the opposite. A high sensitivity speaker is more sensitive to power, and will provide more db per watt of power applied.

 

Not sure WTF I'm thinking. I had it in my head the other way for some reason.

FYI Front Doors are X-OVered , not sure where it is, but there is one, going to make it a bitch to upgrade your front speakers.
