    it'll getcha by. i have the cobra equivelant, and it lasted 3 years before burning up.....now i can hear people, but everything i send is all messed up

    Yeah it will work get a better mike a Road King mike & try too find the clear or light colored coax cable & get a steel antenna not fiberglass & you can take too a CB shop and not sure what it cost this days but can can put a chip in too increases it's range & output I have an old Cobra 40 channels with a chip in it RK mike the whole thing I needed to get it out & installed in the truck, but I have no need & my friends we are use handhelds

    from what i have seen, the one at radio shack looks to be the cheapest. Even cheaper than a handheld.

    you can get away with a cheap standard radio, but to make a handheld worth while, you'll need to spend a little more.

    for you're use, jason, i'd get the one you posted or the cobra from walmart, mount in in the center console so it's out of the way and out of site, and then use a quick release antenna mount on the bed rail so you can just twist the antenna off by hand when you aren't using it. should run you less than $100 for a decent setup, coax and all.
