1st Gen in WA. Rebuilt title?

I have located the perfect Tacoma. This thing has all the options I have been looking for.

However, it has a rebuilt title. Is there anyone in the Washington State area that would mind taking a look at this truck for me?

How would you guys de-rate the truck due to having this rebuilt title?

 

I tend to run away from rebuilt titles.

You run into the same prob here in utah, damn near every *right priced* used vehicle has a rebuilt title.

You run into serious problems with rebuilts. Collision damage, engien damage that wont show until later, warping of the frame, or you could be really lucky and end up with a Katrina-Flood victim.

 

Do you have any pictures of it? How much are they asking? Miles? How many Owners? Can you call the old Owner? Can they offer you any information about the vehicle? Alot of things go into me being confortable buying a rebuilt title.... and i have never been to that level before..

Like Alderleet said... you could get lucky and get the ole Katrina truck and have salt and water damage you will never know about until you get 10k down the road..

The research I've seen says it will be 20%-50% less due to the rebuilt title.

Pretty low mileage! Any opinions would be appreciated.

 

Check you local County Clerk or Register of Titles to see if ther will be a problem with getting it re-titled. I called mine,when a good deal came up, reported it could take MONTHS for the paperwork to get processed,and truck "certified and inspected".

Hhhmmmm. I wouldnt take that price.

I literally have the exact same truck. 2000, white, xtra-cab SR5, 4x4, automatic, V6, TRD off road, tow pkg, power everything, brand new tires, full 120K inspec and replacement of *everything* (brakes, pads, pumps, belts, timing, plugs, filters, flushing, ect), compression testing of the engine +/- 3 across the board, perfect exterior, perfect interior, 110k miles.

Just under 10K, with registration and all.

8,800 for that same truck, with a rebuilt title, and more miles. FUCK NO.

 

No go on that deal.

 

I would agree with the others, I just bought mine and paid only 4600.00 It came from Texas and just needed some usual work and cleaning, but it only had 176,000 miles and it runs great. A rebuilt title will stay with the truck and to be honest I don't think I would ever buy a car from craigslist ( scamlist). And just way too much money!

 

Is it for sale?

I might shoot him a low ball offer. That is really the only way I can cover my arse.

 

She's a beauty, but rebuilt/salvaged titles are sketchy. I personally would never buy a salvaged/rebuilt title. You never know though. If you decide check it out, ask for accident pics, and make sure all body lines flow, and doors/hood/tailgate close smoothly. Good luck.

 

I found a nationwide inspector. $130. They do full inspection including test drive, fluid checks, car fax type report, pics, look for damage repair, body lines, etc...

 

Might be a great buy. I've noticed lots of guys on here buy nice 4x4 tacomas for way way less than you would ever find them selling for in the NW, so they have unrealistic price expectations.

 

Shampoop, how far are you from Moses Lake, WA? What would you suggest this truck is worth in your part of the world, all things considered?

 

I live in the portland area. It would be really hard to gauge whether or not it's worth it without seeing it. I was looking at tacomas for a long time on craigslist not seriously thinking about buying though, then when I got a different job where I could actually afford one, a good deal popped up. I noticed that 4x4 1st gens sell for much much higher than bluebook on average in this area. Makes sense as everyone that lives here wants one and I'd imagine people in arizona don't care much about 4x4 tacomas.

I paid 13k my 03 TRD 4x4 5spd with either 130-140k miles on it, but in excellent condition inside and out, with a clean title. I'd say I got a good deal, not great, not terrible. For me it seemed much harder to find a trd that wasn't thrashed than it was to find a standard 4x4.

But if that truck really is in excellent condition, the wreck picture show that it really was a tiny fender bender and repaint was high quality, I think it would be a good deal, especially considering line-x costs around $300-600. Probably should have a mechanic check out the mechanics and body repair before you buy though. You could probably talk the guy down to around $7k if you tried.

The mileage really is just a number, I looked at many much lower mileage trucks in much worse condition before I found mine.

shit, i think thats a little high for a rebuilt title. i live right here in oregon and prices look about the same between the states. I paid 3500 for my 1998 tacoma rebuilt, and 110k miles but no trd, power windows or doors.

 

I was thinking that $4500 -$5000 would make me comfortable making the purchase. I don't think he understands what the "Rebuilt" stigma does to the truck and resale value. He sent me a pic of the "damage/fender bender"...it showed a number on the windshield like it was at an auction. I searched for the number and found the exact truck and auction. Only to find out there was a little more damage than he had informed me about. He sent only a pic of the front bumper being damaged. There was also extensive damage to the rear bumper and pass side bed. He also lists this truck as a 2000. The auction was for a 1999 and the VIN the current owner provided states 1999. There may just be too much shady crap going on here for me to pursue.

 

after looking at the pics, yea fuck that truck. Especially if it was bought while wrecked. If he was the guy that owned it during the wreck and just damaged the bumper like an actual fender bender, maybe. I'd steer clear for sure.

 

Sounds sketchy for sure! Keep searching! Tacomas are like gold here in CO too, but I waited for months and found a great deal on a 02 xtra cab, 4x4, 5 spd, TRD, 140k with shell for $6200! Granted it was used as a work truck and had small scratches/dents, the suspension needs to replaced and I need to rebuild the stock locker actuator, but for $2000 investment on top of purchase price, I will have a great offroad machine! Most similar trucks in that had a nice looking exterior with similar options and mileage, they were all over $10k!
