Dumb Question Please Help

alright so I understand suspension to an extent, I'm jut not a pro like so many on here. My question is... what considers your truck "mid-traveled"? I just got a pair of 3.5" adjustable king coilovers with total chaos uca's. havent gotten the coilovers in the mail yet, their still being made. as for the back, i cant afford it yet. but ive been told that my truck is gonna be considered "mid-traveled" but idk i thought otherwise. so i have no choice but to turn to tacomaworld

To me it does. I think there are a lot of definitions of "mid travel".

By that definition my Eibachs are mid-travel which I don't not believe is accurate. I'm pretty sure the travel refers to the amount of suspension travel you have. Even though I'm lifted from the Eibach coils, the amount of suspension travel I have is the same as stock because of the 5100 length. I believe mid-travel would be like what PSU stated, extended length shocks and an UCA that allows them to articulate further than stock.

 

Well they are being custom made for my truck and I was told they are extended travel. Soooo....... idk. How bout, as soon as I have them in my hand, which should be any day now, I'll let u guys know. If ur still curious that is.

 

nevermind then, I just assumed the Kings were extended length. Looks like it isn't mid travel.

 

It's "Mid Travel" if two things are true:

1. The suspension can compress until the control arm hits the factory bump stops.
2. At full droop, the wheel can drop 1" or more lower than the factory suspension would allow.

Both are necessary; otherwise top plate spacer lifts would be considered "mid travel" because they fulfill 2. But they don't fulfill 1.

To achieve this, you need two things:

1. Modified upper control arms that don't bind at the ball joint.
2. Extended length shocks that allow the wheel to droop lower.

I have not measured, but I believe my OME shocks with LR UCAs allow about 1/2" more droop than factory, because they eliminate the UCA ball joint bind. But that's not mid travel either - it's not enough extra droop to qualify under 2.

 

Cool thanks for the help! And yea I'm not sure about the total chaos uca's and whether they qualify under what u said. I'll have to ask. Either way, its a lift, its tougher than stock. I'll be happy either way

 

If it's a custom built set of King coilovers, I'd say you'll be happy... If not, you're out a lotta Benjamins.
