I just got the April auto edition of Consumer Reports (and here it is still February, haha). Once again the Taco is highly recommended and receives very high grades. Although I'm a little surprised they haven't caught on to the TSB for the suspension problems. They've graded the '03's through the '07's suspension as above average and the '08's much better than average. What's everyone else thoughts on the Tacoma's ratings (if your a nerd like me that actually subscribes to CR and immediately flipped to the Toyota pages)?

They're pretty similar overall. There's give and takes for both.

I think the percentage of people that actually complain enough to get the suspension TSB done is so low compared to the number of Tacos out there that the CR survey results won't reflect that. It is also a factor in why they haven't just changed the factory spec leaf springs... Most people want the softest car-like ride possible and aren't concerned with hauling anything heavier than an overweight 10 year old. We on this forum are just smarter than the average Taco owner.

Im not surprised that the Tacoma scored well. It always has and hopefully it always will.
Every year the Tacoma makes the list of the top 10 vehicles that best hold their value, so that should say something about how well-made, durable and reliabile it is.
About the leaf spring issues, IMO thats another issue that was blown way out of proportion by the internet.
I file that in the same category as all the claims by Tacoma owners that their trucks suddenly lurched foreward and they could stop them by using the brakes, which was investigated by the NHTSA, which could find no evidence to suggest a design flaw or a widespread problem.
The internet can be a great thing because of the open exchanger of information and knowledge, but it can also be a very bad thing because anyone can be an instant expert and what starts out as a problem on 1 or 2 vehicles is suddenly a problem that everyone thinks is happening on their vehicle.

I didn't want to pay for the issue but did watch the news report on the top vehicles in each category. Toyota was at the top of nearly every category.

There was only ONE American model at the top of a category...the Chevy Avalanche. That is why Detroit is struggling - they can't produce a good product.

Unless something drastic changes, I'll be a Yota lifer!

Can't wait to trade the wifes Jeep in for a Highlander!

I can't agree with that, many here, including me, can confirm that their suspension bottomed out with a modest load. If it weren't the case, there would be NO TSB...

Young Doc: No wonder this circuit failed. It says "Made in Japan".
Marty McFly: What do you mean, Doc? All the best stuff is made in Japan.
    Young Doc: Unbelievable.

It's also interesting to note that Marty was in awe over the black 1986 Toyota pickup. Great Scott

True, but Ive also talked to many people who havent had that problem. Thats why its a TSB instead of a recall.

LOL...thats my favorite movie line EVER!

CR did also praise Ford F-150 and they commented that many of Fords newer models are just as good as Toyota and Honda.
So, not all of the domestics are junk, just the Chevys and Dodges. :D
