Good for her!!! I am puzzled why she asked permission from the 911 operator to shoot the guy though, no permission needed.

hell yeah! thats how it should be! im sorry but if your going to break the law and break into someones house, armed, with possible intent on causing harm to the home owner and your ass gets shot because of it or hurt, then i guess it serves you right for being a dumbass! if he hadnt tried to break in her house he wouldnt have been shot. and im not sure the law in my state but you can bet if i hear someone breakin in my house im bustin out the 12g too, all the guns are in the basement with me

The husband was 58, she was 18.

I totally agree with what this woman did, she even covered her legal bases in the conversation with 911.

But I wonder, how is this a second amendment situation? What "well regulated militia" was she a part of?

Before anybody gets mad at me, I have no problem with responsible gun ownership, whatever the legal basis.

I think the next line is the one everyone refers to "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms"

...at the time of ratification, ... the populace was expected to maintain a state of readiness and ability (which is what "well-regulated" meant), to ward off threats to their liberty, sovereignty, etc.. ..i believe this is still a valid tradition in switzerland, but unfortunately has fallen to the wayside here... the 2A was enumerated in the Bill of Rights because the founders had seen how gov't has a propensity to increase it's authority and disarm the populace..

...then, the next phrase asserts "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"..., which is also a point of controversy for nanny-staters and antis who claim that this is somehow a "collective" right, and thus an anomoly with regard to every other right enumerated in the Bill of Rights..

..the US Supreme Court has recently affirmed the 2A is an "individual" right (see Heller v. DC), and later (McDonald v. Chicago), and this, of course, aligns with the parlance and historical evidence through various documentation/artifacts surrounding the founding...
