Reverse Camera came Stock, How to find harness?

I've got an 09 2.7L 4x4. It has the reverse camera stock. I'm not sure where to look for the wiring harness, if it came with one.

Does anyone know what the factory did if it installed the camera and no monitor? Did they just do the handle and that's it?

Yup. The camera is on the tailgate handle. I don't have a monitor rearview. At least there's no plug and it's a standard size mirror, not the thicker monitor kind.

 

Have you owned the truck since it was built?

 

It had 24 miles on it when I got it from the dealer.

 

You should be able to pop out the overhead console and you will find the end of the wiring harness connector.

My 09 did not have the camera but did have the wiring into the tailgate. I did not see the wiring in the headliner. I have been in the headliner twice so far and it is easy. My Tacoma was built in late July of 09.

 

So you bought the truck new, it has the camera in the tailgate, but not the rear view monitor. Did you ever ask the dealer why?

 

Toyota only makes 1 tailgate handle the one with the backup camera. They did this to make more money off the SR5 owners who want to upgrade.

I believe it is wired to the headliner, you just need to get the mirror, relay and reverse switch to get it to work correctly.

 

I'll check this weekend. Glad to hear it likely has wiring already in the headliner. I def need the monitor, new truck cap makes me feel like i'm going to kill a dwarf with her baby every time I back up.

I thought I saw a thread on here about getting scangauge data to show in the reverse monitor (i'd like to do reverse monitor mod anytime). Anyone seen it? I haven't been able to find it since.

I searched reverse camera monitor, rearview monitor, and couple other combos. Results are not really helpful. I must be doing something wrong.

Hey guys not trying to bring up a dead post but I work at a Toyota dealership in the Gulf States Toyota Region and yes in 09' I believe Toyota made an error and put cameras in all the handles yet I didnt really see very many Tacoma's being produced that year or 10' for that matter. If I'm not mistaken I think some of the 10's had em as well. I bought an 11' with a cap that replaced the camera and I do know that the camera is very expensive through parts as well as salvage if you find one. I just happened to luck out and found a taco that was traded in with the camera but no monitor... Just a heads up...
