Usually I take the train to downtown Chicago to work. I had to go in on a Sunday and the train would not have gotten me there in time.

So I drove, parked in a garage & someone made off with my spare even though I was backed up against a wall.

I had the Toyota spare tire lock installed, but they just got above the tire and cut the cable anyway.

Anyone else have this happen, or have any leads on someone who may be parting out a Tacoma, or where I can get another spare and the cable that would hold it up?
Junkyards around here came up empty & dealer wants a small fortune.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Dan Kalvig

    That is one motivated thief!

You might try a off-the-beaten-path tire & rim shop & look for a used rim & tire.

    Good luck!

That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Guess maybe it's a good time for some tire and rim upgrades? (all 5) :D

Call around the junk yards and such too... might have a rim on a truck still.

My truck came with that same tire lock. I thought this was standard, but I guess not.

That was installed on the truck.

I suspect they either used a cordless grinder to remove the bottom part that keeps them from cutting the cable, then cut the cable to get the tire. Or they used some sort of prybar to just pry the tire down and break the cable.
But it looks like the cable was cut with something.

I'm probably going to get another spare tire lock, and also put on a Kryptonite chain on it as well like this one: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?cid=1000&scid=1002&pid=1169

I thought I was safe with the spare tire lock and being backed up against a wall. Guess they wanted it badly enough.:(

Dang, did you see how much that chain and lock go for??? MSRP on the lock is $126 and your price is $109.99  Ouch, but I guess it's cheaper than a replacement wheel & tire.

Being against the wall just gave them the privacy to do their dirty deed.
