People need to start thinking logically about this stuff.

If SHTF around my part of town, I would most definitely be called in to work. I don't exactly have the luxury of running away to some remote location to live for weeks on end.

To that end, my survival stuff is mostly food and water. Dedicated to helping me get from wherever I am, to work.

 

Check at www.summitracing.com You should be able to find a 32 or 22 gallon cell that will fit between your wheel wells.
If you are going to bug out from wherever you are, you need to plan on going more than 400 miles. Why? That is the maximum range of most passenger vehicles. Like your family sedans, small SUVs, etc. If you throw a 22 gallon cell in the front of your bed, it will give you effectively 39-40 gallons, depending on what kind if driving you are doing, this could be as much as 600-800 miles. I looked at mounting one in place of my spare tire, but it will drastically reduce the departure angle of the truck, even with the DCSB. I have tried to find a marine bladder cell to go in my toolbox, but they cost a fortune.
BTW: Get the 4-6 PSI fuel pump from autozone, wire it on a dashboard switch, and run the fuel line from the pump into the filler port where it hooks into the tank. When you get down to about 1/4 of a tank, fill from the tank in the bed. You don't want the pump to run constantly.
I have been looking into this for months, (too many midnight shifts, can't sleep, so I had to find something to keep me awake)
Also, check craigslist. All kinds of folks are selling all kinds of camping gear that is in great shape, and for pennies on the dollar. Here are some links you might want to check out:

They have an OSHA compliant first aid kit that just fits behind the rear passenger seat of the taco. And it is less than $20.00. They also sell all kinds of food bars, big bottles of peroxide, rubbing alcohol, alcohol swabs, latex and nitrile gloves. Use your imagination.

If you are short on imagination, here is (IMO) the best survivalist in the country. His name is James Wesley Rawles, and he has a huge amount of information. He breaks it down for you, and it is easy to get your head around. He has books on Amazon, good reference info.

I live in Las Vegas, and bugging out is my only option. Bugging in won't work because of the 2 million people in this valley with a "american Idol" mindset, and they are not ready for anything. I am designing a floor (for lack of a better word) that will fit in the bed of the taco that will hold most of my gear, so it is in the truck when I need it. Right now, it is all in a large box, locked into the front of the bed. If you think that planning for the worst and hoping for the best is crazy, I would like to remind you of Hurricane Katrina, and the Superdome. "Experts" had been predicting a hurricane hitting New Orleans for over a decade, but no one listened. In Vegas, I am more concerned about earthquakes, and civil unrest. Anyone wanting more info, feel free to PM me. I have lots.

mine is a get home bag/damnit i forgot somehting (wait i have it in my bag) bag.

no plan on bugging out here...unless there is a tornado warning and I need to get to my dads to the storm shelter

 

my cabin in franklin wv. at the top of a mountain, 4wd access to it, i can see for a good distance and i over look the road coming in about a mile out, its gated although that wont stop much, i got lots and lots of wood and a wood stove. haha. if anything ever happened that the first place im heading! well i guess thats more or so bugging in but it would kinda be an in/out situation if that makes any since?

 

this is exactly the kind of thing i want. a place like this is where i would store most of my supplies. my BOB is what i would use to get me there.


this is more for a nation wide scenario. i wouldn't need that for another "katrina" incident.

Awesome info man! I will be working to turn this idea into reality because getting from point A to point B is my biggest concern.

 

You guys talk about having a place to go...I plan to go home. Fortunately for me I am an hour away from the closest major city. I have four acres and am building a new home in the spring. In my home I will have a 9ft basement with 8" solid poured concrete walls and a "safe room". My home will be heated by geothermal, my water will be pumped from my well, and heat will be generated by my wood burner or propane fireplace. I am looking into wind energy for electricity although I have not ironed out all the details for that just yet.

Since I work an hour from home IN a major city I have to plan to utilize my truck (both my Tacoma and 4Runner) to bug out in the event of a catastrophe. I pretty much carry everything I need to get home in any situation but my fear is not having enough fuel. A fuel cell is my next investment to ensure I can bug out to any destination within reason. You also need to factor the bumper to bumper traffic that is inevitable.

I also have hesitated to post pics of my rig and it's set up just because I don't want the whole world knowing what I have if you know what I mean. Hopefully I will at least get some pics of my bag and its contents soon as I am becoming more comfortable with that idea.

My wife and I are hoping to build a house in about 5 years (I dont wanna sound paraniond but I hope we have that long )

My father in law has been looking at land outside of town to buy for something to ride 4 wheelers on and stuff and he has mentioned that he wants us to build on it once he gets it

 

Someone will have to find you first to take your stuff. One of those things I wouldnt worry about. Just like posting license plates. You can see them all over the street's, who cares

 

my dad and uncle own 36 acres of land that's at least 2 hrs from the nearest real city. together they have 4 houses and a well on that land. my dad currently lives near Savannah, Ga but we'll be headed to his other house if needed.

Thought about it too hard? I am building a home regardless and these items are essential and smart in planning a home since I plan to die there. I am in the construction industry so to be honest these are things I deal with every day so not much thought needed.

Anyway how is that rooster doing that sits out front of the gas station there in Corbin?

 

We are excited! You will find your place in time I am sure. I am more worried about interest rates and inflation that anything which is why I am pulling the trigger this quickly. Good luck brother!
