I was laid off today. Apparently we were audited, a few attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff were let go. Job hunt starts now. Great way to start 2012

I was laid off for almost 2 years. Happened just before I got married. There is plenty of work out there for those willing to bust their ass. I'm a plumber and took work doing anything and everything from shooting woodchucks @ $20 a pop to splitting firewood, side work, handy man work ......anything. This is also a great opportunity to think about a career change if you aren't happy with what you currently do (did). Stay strong, and don't get comfortable cashing gubmint checks. Good luck.

That blows. Good luck. Both times I've been laid off from a company it led to a better, higher paying job. Hopefully that happens to you as well.

Got laid off 2 months before I got married, and collected unemployment. 3 months later, I got called back, but was only part time, which in my company was per diem. It was cool, because if I "needed" a day off, I just said I couldn't work. Then the project I'm currently on came up, and I volunteered for it, knowing it would be 10 hour days, 6 days a week. Last May, I returned to full time status, which meant I now get benefits.

Was glad to be working, and until I took full time status, I kept looking for a job.

File for unemployment and collect while you look for another job.

Always work out there for a guy who can hustle and has skills...took one job fixing construction equipment, outside, during a New England winter...next job was Texas during a heat wave. Keep your skills up and your tools ready.

Since then, I have been with my current employer for 25 years and earning over 4 times my original pay, of course a graduate degree in engineering along the way helped.
