My 2010 Tacoma maintenance light is on. Bought used from Jaguar dealership and I am almost positive they didn't reset the light when doing the last oil change. I called up to the service department to find out when the last oil change was. I have a ODB scanner but I see these trucks have a maintenance light as well as CEL. A maintenance light will or will not be picked up for scans? From what I am seeing the maintenance is just for engine oil notifications??

Maintenance light is just oil changes. CEL is OBD2 and something more than tech forgetting to reset after oil change.

some of this, a little of that
look in your manual. The light comes on as you approach 5,000 miles telling you you are due for an oil change. You can reset it by following the directions in the manual, takes like 10 seconds using the odometer/tripmeter

Your maintenance light goes on based on miles if I'm not mistaken. Your scanner will not pick it up as it's not tied into the OBD II system. Once an oil change is done, hold in the trip odometer button and have the key in the on position and it will show 5 lines that count down and then it goes to the mileage on the odometer. This is done every time an oil change is done. I believe it states this in the manual as well, though I may be wrong.

So, was your CEL on when you picked up your truck?

Nothing was on. Only had 21 or 22K when I got it. Maintenance light just came on when I was driving home from the office today. They changed oil and didn't reset. It's a Jaguar dealership so I doubt they knew any better. They do now though.

I did really. Main question was if my scanner hit the CEL light, maintenance light or both.
