... it's called "living w/in your means", ...and if they can't do that, then why should i be on the hook to help pay for their irresponsible behavior? don't i have a right to not be compelled into slavery to cover the fallout from another's impropriety?

... if people want to be irresponsible, wreckless, moochers, leeches, etc, time-after-time-after-time again... fine, ...let's make a deal - spayed or neutered? ...

So in this thread your key word is " slavery " , I like it

Nice change from the Global Warming thread's " alarmists "

I think Welfare reform is simple. No welfare. Shut down the programs. Maybe learn to hunt, fish, grow a garden and build your own shelter.

    No welfare. It's canceled.

Actually this country is doing that by regulating abortions. Just throwing that out there.

......If you have never lived outside of North America, you should try it once. It will open people's minds to how countries that have been around for thousands of years are doing it compared to ours who is only a few hundred years, and trust me don't listen to the media here, they are all going one way or the other politically.
Trust me I love this country I gave many years of my life to defend it's people and practices. One of thing I have noticed about our country is that maybe we have too many freedoms that get exploited because of one reason or another, usually someone tries to skew a law or regulation to how they see fit. Like the welfare programs... these programs are breeding laziness and greed within our society. It is changing the mentality of America; "if I can get something for free, I'm going to do it, even if I don't need it". Unless the welfare rules are changed and set in stone to where no lawyer or politician can skew them then we will never truly fix the problem of career welfare recipients. I saw someone post in the earlier pages stating they were tired of driving through the ghetto and seeing a $50k car sitting in the driveway. It's absolutely true just about anywhere you go in this country. People live well beyond their means (credit) and expect someone else to bail them out when they can't afford it. In many other countries families don't even have credit cards, you know why? If they can't afford it, they don't buy it. They save up until they can get it. So where do WE begin to fix problems???

(sorry for the rant. but, these are things I've noticed and this is an off-topic discussion right?)

They will have to figure it out for themselves if you are ok with rats and stray cats and you can hunt those in the city, knock yourself out. Likewise if a cardboard box meets your requirements for shelter, so be it, that's on you as an individule to decide what is best for you.

I also have no problem what so ever if kind individuals who believe these people on welfare need help, offer to help. For instance, the starving mother and child scenario, by all means take them into your home, provide for them, give them money hand outs what ever you like. That is your right to do. Just don't knock on my door and tell me I have to also.

I make donations to wounded warriors and to veteran assistance programs myself. That is how I CHOOSE, to help. I have no problem with people helping people and taking care of one another but I believe that should be a choice we make as fellow human beings, not something the government tells us we have to do then decides how much we will contribute and how those funds will be spent and to who they will go and why.

You do realize that Welfare and shelter programs exist because other like-minded individuals as your self decided it was easier to pay a little more in taxes to keep the poor out of their neighborhoods, right?

Seriously. It's guised as "helping the poor/needy," but basically people with enough means enacted taxes to provide funding for social services to keep the indigent in their slums. It was either that, or increased taxes to pay for police services to deal with the poor coming into their neighborhoods and arresting them for some bullshit crime like "loitering." (because you can't arrest someone for being poor).

So go right ahead and turn the poor out. You'll just end up paying that money back when your local police force and holding cells need to be doubled. Not to mention the legal fees from endless civil rights violation suits.

    neglect, mostly.
sub'd to finish reading later, only got through about 4 pages.

but to comment, im along the lines of what Pugga has said. (assuming we are still somewhat on topic ). it is a great sounding idea on paper but the cost of it might outweigh the financial returns the government would receive after the 20-25% get their funds taken away.

Earlier in the thread, someone posted that when FL tried it before, there was only a 3% positive test return.
