Sometimes. Depends on what we're doing, where they're going and how they're getting back. Also how annoying they are.

Air powered. They run back to an onboard air compressor on the unit.

Yes. We have flak vests for a reason. Not everyone likes to see a uniform, regardless if we don't carry a gun.

I can't remember if it's 10 or 20% over the speed limit. I think it's 10. So limit is 60mph. We can legally do 66. Do we go faster? Generally when I drive stat if it's a straight away I'm running the governor all the way with my boot parallel with the floor board.

    Not applicable to me.

    Ketamine.

Drowning call where the PT has been trapped by forceful suction on a pool drain?

Not sure what you're asking there. Have I done one? No. What would I do if I responded? Get them to turn the suction off, have fire/water rescue/life guard get them and bring them to me and start resuscitation practices.

No clue. Probably an old person complaining of a fart stuck sideways.

Get on the radio with dispatch, tell them there's a cop behind me, give them my location and ask them to ask their dispatch what the hell they want. But continue driving on my merry way unless told otherwise by dispatch depending on what my partner says in the back. Patient care comes second to safety and nothing else.

The "jaws of life" (spreaders) and cutters are usually hydraulic (meaning they are driven by fluid). The lines you see carry hydraulic fluid and run from a pump/compressor that compresses the fluid that runs the tools.

There are now new spreaders/cutters/rams that are electric. In the past they sucked because battery tech. sucked. But from what I have heard the new electric ones rock. (ie, no lines, power plants, long battery life due to Lithium battery tech.)

My first call was a Signal 7/DOA. Dude croaked late at night and was as stiff as a board when we got there.

    1. It really depends on the situation. I am not a fan of taking family members. Usually adds to drauma if there already is some. With kids I ALWAYS take a family member. Depending on how sick they are and how old they are determines where they sit. Infants to school age kids I usually have their parent sit in the back with me.

    2. Depends on the department. At the volly department I was at prior to my current job, we had hydralic cutters and spreaders on the heavy rescue. But on the engine we had an electric spreader. Which actually performed just as well as the hydralic one did. For the length of the battery.

    3. Never. If it's "Hostel" I will not go without somebody who has things that go boom. Safety first. And my safety is more important then any medical emergency.

    4. Again, state law. Oregon says I can go 10 over, my company says 15 over. I have gone 30 over once, but that was late at night with a very sick kid.

    5. County amublance is probably a Fire Department rescue. I bet the private ambulance has the transport contract.

    6. For EMT's none. For medic's in my agency, it's Fentynal. Good shit.

    7. What would I do? Depends on how long under, how cold outside temp is, how cold water is, age of pt.

    8. Honestly can't remember. That was 6 years ago. When I was doing ride alongs.

    9. Depends, if they are going to a call with me, I will usually pull over and let them past. They can secure the scene.

Don't read ECG's for dummies. Read a proper ACLS and Cardiology text. Better to understand it all then scrape by.

Hahahaa I carry my Steth, knife, and pin-light. I don't stray to for from ambulance. Well the gurney too which has the life Pak 15 and airway bag on it.

Really all depends on what call we are running. We are usually second on scene and fire gives an update to the supplies we need

Fuck that. If I need to wear a vest to get into a scene, I don't need to be there.

My dad actually offered to get me a vest if I needed it. I don't want to need to have one
