Downsides to UCAs

    6" Fabtech coilover lift. 35/12.50/17 Mickey Thompson MTZ, 17x9 ProComp 1089 wheels painted black, UWS black lowprofile toolbox, husky liners, tacoma bed mat, bed lights, Premier stereo, Cobra 19 cb, firestik 3' antenna.
    Are there any downsides to having aftermarket UCA's? I may end up biting the bullet and gettin some if I decide against wheel spacers. Also are there any available for our trucks that are just plain black that dont stand out?

    You can paint or powdercoat anything....So color is no issue.

    The cost can be a negative- but there are mechanical downsides to using spacers- So I'd drop the extra coin to get the UCAs...

    The UCAs don't negate your need for spacers since you're planning on running the 285s on stock rims. I ran 285s on stock rims and I rubbed the UCAs at full lock.

    UCAs are necessary to correct alignment issues.

    Spacers are necessary to reduce backspacing on your rims, allowing you to run wider tires.

    Two different parts for two different purposes.

    modified for light trail use
    -they squeak, whine, cry, squeal, etc.

    -you gotta keep the ball joints clean, and they are magnets for trash

    -the liners between the uni-ball and the pocket wear out, so those need replacing every couple of years or so

    -The balls themselves wear out, have to replace those, too.

    -it's really easy to over-grease them and flare a bushing...buy some extra bushings

    the 285 is the width of the tire....285/70's will be shorter, but the same width issues

    also, allpro makes black UCA's.

    You must be talking about Camburgs and others. My Total Chaos UCA's are still nice and quiet, and I have had concrete on the uniball, had them submerged in water for long periods. The Uniball is still nice and tight after 2+ years, and Im on the original bushings. :D Dont know of anyone who has had the issues you list with Total Chaos.

    i had the squeak whe my CO's were at 2 1/4".....but since i've lifted them to 3 1/4" i havent had a squeak yet...

    If the Uniball ever squeaks, you can spray some Tri Flow, or any other Tefflon based Dry lube on them, and they will stop squeaking. Never needed it on my TC's.

    that sounds like a whole lot to deal with! almost sounds like your buying trouble lol.

    I'm not taking my truck on any serious off roading. its more of a tool used for huntin fishin etc... i have to drive on the interstate a lot.

    Any opinions on these:
    Would I be fine with this set up. I really want a good ride for when im interstate ridin:
    Toytec 885 lift w/ aal
    stock shocks.
    285 75 nitto tg
    ucas mentioned above
    spidertrack wheel spacers

    I wouldn't run the stock shocks with the 885's. I would opt for the OME shocks or some 5100's.
