I am very excited to hear this. Thank you for working on this problem.

Will the hardness of the PTFE match up well to the axle, and will any of this be effected by the gear oil? You said that the ARB uses a bushing, is that in place of the needle bearing? Is it possible to use the ARB bushing if that is true.

My biggest gripe about my tacoma is the 35MPH rumble. I cant wait to have it gone.

So to install that bushing does one have to reset the gears?

You will be able to replace the bushing just like you would a needle bearing. Internal puller as pictured earlier in this thread and then knock in the bushing.

ARB bushing will not work b/c carrier is different.... sizes do not match up. Also our design should work better than ARB's there bushing is only 3/4 inch long. however there side gear is bored and supported where as factory carry is not, so their bushing works fine in their application. Our bushing will be 1.25 inches long. This will give more support then the needle bearing at 1 inch, in addition needle bearings do not like the side load that they experience.

The hardness of material is perfect it will not damage shaft, even if it were to become damaged somehow.

Add me to the Vibe club. I've been lifted for 8000 miles, and it just started this week. It also dropped in temperature here, so I think that may have magnified the problem. I have an appointment Monday to drop it off. This should be interesting, since I have been in the service dept 11 times in 13 months. (Not counting oil changes) They call me by name as soon as I walk in. Truck has 37000 miles. The service manager asked if I was ready to trade it in. I told him just write me a check and I would never see him again :)

How much is this bushing going to run?

May be silly question but I had no chance to open 2gen front diff yet, but do you know if any other carriers will fit there ? like how much difference is between rear carrier and one the front. Or lets say front one from LC and front from 2gen. They all 8 inch. Do you think its possible to modify rear carrier to fit on the front?

Another victim here. '11, 33k. Just got back from the dealership, and they ordered a new diff. Service manager said he didn't want to chance just the bearing since it was full of water after the seal let go a while back. When I had the Safai TSRs, I blamed the whine on them, but it didn't go away with the Winter LTX tires I put on, so I took the SM with me for a drive, shifting back and forth from 2H to 4H, and he told me to bring it in. It has a spacer lift, but the dealer put it on before I signed the papers. At that time, I made sure to ask what warranty implications this might have, and was assured that it was "none".

I'll keep you posted. Things break, the difference is will you get jerked around come warranty time.

I must say, I hate (not really, just jealous) all of you with reasonable dealers. Mine is horrible.

Just a reminder, make sure they inspect the CV Axle for ANY damage whatsoever where the bearing rides on it. Failure to have that replaced too if it is damaged will result in the same bearing failure within a year (speaking from personal experience here:D).

Chase, really impressed with your work and ingenuity on this. When you develop a bushing using a material that you are confident in, I will be among the first to jump at the opportunity to give it a whirl.

I have a question that may be significant in terms of the potential cost and ease of this fix: it is my understanding that the members here who have done the needle bearing replacement have indicated that the CV shafts that they replaced were very slightly scored or polished but otherwise were not excessively worn. Do you think the bushing solution would allow one to get away with re-using the original shaft? Or do you think the shaft would need to be replaced to minimize the amount of slop in the joint?

Thanks for your potentially game changing contribution to solving this annoying problem!!

Started experiencing the vibe recently. Only lifted for about 6 months; 2" lift with 5100's and an AAL. Took off the DD last night, no change in vibe today.

Decided to remove the AAL and set front to stock height; she's a road queen anyway:rolleyes:. Hoping my axle and bearing are still okay. Will report whether this fixes the vibe or if at this point I need to replace the drive parts.

Did your vibe go away? I took mine down from 3" to just some Eibachs and it just about went away. Not quite 100% though.

Haven't taken off the lift yet, should get to it late this week or early next. Will definitely report back.

I got the same problem with my 2011 Tacoma, and only 11,000 miles! I do have a leveling kit (3") with a diff drop installed. I stopped at my dealership and they figured it should be covered 100% on warranty. I explained to the warranty manager why this happened and he actually seemed to listen. I'm dropping it off tomorrow for the day to let the technicians have a look at it and take it for a drive. I'm can't wait to see what they come up with.

Same problem here. I have 72k on mine but only put the 3" leveling kit on 3k ago. I've already purchased the new axle and needle bearing but am going to wait for the bushing solution as it looks like I'd be wasting my time putting another useless bearing in. Hope it works as I can't complain about much else on the truck. Waiting patiently...:)
