Noob Question #13: Will they fit?

With no lift, you will rub.

 

w/ no lift on an 18 u'd need like a 265/65/18 or 265/70/17 equivalent....chris knows best!

 

sport rim is a 5.5" BS, but u cant run a 285 on it w/o rubbing the UCA's

 

When you move the wheel out (different back spaceing), it increases the radius of the wheel travels. Pushing it out a little bit, and fitting 285's on a non lifted truck will cause the tire to hit the front and rear of the fender.

 

No. Im just guessing........I have been around these trucks for quite some time. I wont tell anyone not to do something if I dont have first hand experiance with doing it. And its not that weird that it wont work. The tires are only 4 tenths of an inch smaller in diameter, but they are wider. Lower BS moves the wheel out further from the suspension, BUT, it increases the arc in which the tire travels when turning, thus causeing it to hit your fenders. If you run less BS, as the tire is wider than stock, it will hit the UCA. FWIW, I dont post on here saying not to do someting just for giggles. Im trying to help, and let you know WHY it wont work. Please be my gust to give it a try, and see for your self.

 

I understand. And no offense is taken. I have been wrong many times in the past, but I have seen many tires being tried on these vehicles and have a good idea what works and what wont, and why. I dont want to sound like I dont appreciate questions, when in fact, I do. My Internet Text Translator has been malfunctioning, and I thought you may have not understood why I , and Jhodge were saying they wouldnt fit. And I may have gotten a little snappy.

 

Well, in a nutt shell. A small lift, and different BS wheels will help.

 

i'd say minimum of 2.5" w/ the right BS wheels....

 

bolt pattern IS 6x5.5, but the BS is wheel dependent...not a toyota standard. the sport rims are 5.5 BS, but the OR rims have a smaller BS...like 5 or so...the less BS, the farther they will stick out and be away from the UCA's

 

The Sprot and Off road have the same BS.

There are rumors that the FJ wheels are different, but I cant confirm that one. My neigbor has an FL, and I measured thm to be 5.5 also.

 

u miht be able to sneak them by. u're already pulling the rim out by .75" from stock. i'd see if u can get them from a place and try them on before you take off. see if they'll mount some to the front and get in and do some full lock turns and see if its just rubbing plastic in the fenders or actually touching UCA's, etc
