It seems people are having some issues buying from other members at times and there are also a lot of great people to buy from. What I'm proposing is a simple reputation sort of thing that would be visible to all members, sort of like how Ebay does it's ratings. Something simple, what'd you buy, would you recommend this seller, could even be the 5 star system. The other per everyone has doesn't really mean anything when it comes to buying/selling so it's sort of irrelevant in this regard. It might make it a bit easier to determine if you want to buy something from another member rather than just basing it off of his/her post count and could keep flame threads aimed at bad sellers down a bit.

Interesting. Having bought an sold with individual members, this is somethign I'd be interested in. I'm assuming you mean just any members buying and selling, and not mean official vendors.

So how would it initiate in a way that isn't a high-maint. PITA for the mods?

Maybe by posting in FS, it automatically creates a rating/icon score in your profile, but then it seems it would be up to the buyer to follow up to supply the rating, of course...this closure part may be missging/too random.

But if people conduct business entirely through PMs or don't use the FS forum like they should, that won't work... :notsure:

I like the idea, if it can be made to work somewhat reliably and offer some validity. Unlike anything Chris4x4 says.

BTW, want to buy my wheels?

I'm thinking something what you see when someone leaves you per, except everyone would be able to see it. Maintenance and the prompts to get people to actually fill it out would be the potential problems, especially since, first and foremost, TW is not a retailer, they just allow members to buy and sell at their own risk.

Here's what I have in mind, a simple 2 or 3 spot rating system, what did you buy and either stars or buyers experience. The buyer would have to send a request to the seller when he purchases something, allowing the form to become accessible and ultimately posted under the seller's name for all to see. That way both the buyer and seller would have to be on board to do it which, if you're a good seller, shouldn't be an issue.

I was not thinking of including vendors since they all have their own sections where buyer experiences seem to be shared openly already.

I would like to bring this thread back to life. I was just looking at a thread where someone got jacked on some speakers from someone here. I have bought and sold and even gave away a few things here. I think that there should be some kind of icon under out user name and if we buy trade or sell something to or from someone that there should be a rating of the sorts. I know I am honest and also only use paypal for transactions. I want people to trust me and think that if there is a rating system that we could have a piece of mind doing deals on TW.

I have seen this same exact thing on another forum I am a member at. It works great. They just added a folder for seller reps. If you buy from someone and are happy you post it up in the folder, which is searchable by member name. _ we need this on TW !!!

This would be a very good idea yet difficult because most members don't really sell a whole bunch, I've made 4 purchases from TW and to my knowledge it was everyones first time selling. My point being most people would just have a neutral stars signifiying being a first time seller. Just my $.02

I've seen on another forum a separate area where they have a section called "Good buy/sell experiences" and one called "Bad buy/sell experiences". From there the poster can start a thread telling their story good or bad.

Searching the name of the person you are interested in buying from would bring up any threads pertaining to them.

Having a requirement of telling the actual story (pics included) would avoid people just rating someone good or bad on a bar under their name without an explanation. Providing the pics would help because some people might be more picky than others in the condition of goods received.

I agree with you. This definitely would do more to protect the people that sell more frequently. There is a thread called 'Good people to deal with' or something to that affect but it's gotten so large that no one would actually sift through it to see if their potential seller was listed. Usually if someone does have a bad experience, there's a thread started about it "_____ ripped me off". This would possibly cut down on that type of stuff although sometimes the threat of being publically flamed might be enough to make a seller follow through.

Personally, I won't buy something from someone with a very low post count. Not to say I couldn't be ripped just as easily by a long-standing member but it's just a little piece of mind when buying something from someone you've never met and sight unseen.

That's actually a really good idea and might be easier to track than a seller reputation.

The cool thing about it is that it also allows everyone as well as the subject of the thread to chime in, explain his point of view - and together with the help of other members perhaps come to an amicable solution. Because sometimes mistakes are made or things happen and not everyone is out to rip people off.

For example, it was complained that a member sent money and never heard a response or never got the item. Calls to the person were fruitless. The person stopped logging onto the forum. When the buyer started a thread, a friend of the seller (who was also a member) chimed in and explained that the seller was in a bad car accident, the phone was lost in the mess and that the seller was still in the hospital. The buyer and other members understood, the friend was able to help send the item to the buyer, and a new thread was started to help lift the spirits of the injured seller.

    :)

I've seen a lot of forums use iTrader.

In each members profile is a feedback score.

Next to the users name in a post, is a number. Positive or negative. Clicking it is a shortcut to get to the members profile and feedback score. Where you can see the members transaction history.

With iTrader (never have seen/used it before) can the seller provide an explanation or discuss the situation at hand? Will it cost TW to use it? Sorry for the newb questions..
