Black Fender Flares?

Hey guys.. I just picked up my 2012 DCPR, and now my dad wants one... The problem is he wants the black fender flares and bumper.. but also wants the "TRD Sport" Package.. which here in FL comes with color keyed fender flares and bumper. So two options:

1. Take delivery of the truck with the color matched items, then order new black bumper cover and flares, switch them and maybe sell the colored ones here.

2. Have the dealer paint the bumper cover and fender flares black.

Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks!

 

what from the sport package does he want?

 

I'd tell him to get over it and choose TRD or base.
Not worth stressing over.

 

Well all of it.. and there were a few items that we couldn't order separately, examples, 115v outlet, 17in wheels, Sport fabric seats, etc. I couldn't believe what we COULDN'T order separately!

 

I agree.. but his $$ and his truck. I just feel bad he's 62 and getting older, just trying to help him get exactly what he really wants for what will probably be his last truck

 

id just buy the sport and have the fender flares and bumper either painted or bed lined

 

hey if he has the money to get what he wants why not? I would probably get the sport and change what he wants from there. Either way good luck to him and post some pics up of whatever he decides.

 

You think that would be cheaper than the new parts? Also worried about painting anything on a new truck (overspray)

 

parts from the dealer are rediculous. if your going to get them painted, id take them off to do it. not on the truck

 

great point.. still in the planning stages, thinking about it.. thats probably what they would do

 

to me it seems like your dad wants the things on the TRD sport that are useful to him and wants the base model because of the looks. id get what is useful and make it look good imo

OK, then get the TRD.
Color keyed was a requirement for me, but if he wants to make changes, so be it.

Edit:
If you really lean hard on your sales guy and he knows that this means a sale, he may be able to make something happen for you.
If not, walk out and tell him you're going elsewhere for what you want.
You might have to play rough to make something happen at the front end !

Hell, if you want Super White (for example) and he has a Super White base with black flares, it would be a free upgrade for his base !

 

Exact same situation I found, I want the black flares and non painted front bumper cover on my TRD Offroad and Toyota says they don't stray far from the package - custom order is something the American trucks do more often. At least I could get the non painted metal rear bumper.

So I'm getting the Offroad with the painted stuff (it's just going to get scratched up) and I'll keep looking for good deal on the base model flares and eventually replace the painted front plastic bumper cover (what you see on the truck isn't a bumper, it's a semi-flexible plastic cover for the actual bumper beam behind it) with something metal & powder coated with bracket for the winch.

If you dad's concern is more so scratch damages, you can use helicopter tape / surface guard on other areas, ie door sill, fenders, rockers whatever http://www.racerstape.com/np.html

 

Thanks.. He doesn't go off road.. He just likes the black. Looks like the dealer might trade him trim and bumper.. Makes sense.. Upgrade for the dealer for free!

 

any news on what he got id love to trade u my new black ones, that is if he gets super white...
