Alright guys my uncle has a 89 toyota with the 22re, when he gets up to highway speeds the truck drops to idle and wont get going. He says it idles fine but it wont give him enough fuel or something to keep up higher speeds?

He has been working on it all day and is stumped:confused:

Bad gas? Clogged carb? Dirty fuel filter?

the 22re is a fuel injected engine

maybe fuel pressure is an issue

I was thinking its more tword the fuel pressure idea, maybe his fuel pump is bad? Ive never heard of these trucks having bad fuel pumps..

... its an 89. i think the fuel pump/filter, fuel system in general is tired of running for the past 21 years. may need to replace something. just a guess.

so literally, the truck drops to idle (700-800rpm) at highway speeds (65+mph) , with no throttle response watsoever? does it try to maintain speed or just begins to slow down. when does it pick back up?

He tries to get back up and he says its like it just glugs. This summer his wiring harness fell onto his exhaust and fried it up pretty bad. We cut the wires apart and rewrapped them.
