    Hi all.
I just installed a kenwood xdc x895. I am very happy with everything except that the HU will not dim with the roller for the dash dimmer. I connected orange/white to orange on the harness. This is on std 2 plug toy harness as I do not have the jbl system. Does anyone know how I could test that the output to the dimmer switch and then I could determine where the disconnect is.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure there is a dimmer wire in the factory stereo connector.

Im with dolby, I believe the dimmer doesn't affect the stereo. The only time my pioneer dims is when I turn on the headlights.

I have never seen a Hu Dimmer work the way your dash lights do. The HU's normally have two brightness settings 1 low 1 high that work with your headlights. You don't get that analog control i think your looking for. There is a dimmer wire that you can use I believe its orange.

    Hey padykman,

I'm having the same problem, did you ever resolve this? I'm also not able to get the dimmer control to work on my KDC-895. Have the orange-white connected as instructed to the harness, but there is no dimmer control :(

    OK, thanks.

I was playing around with it more yesterday. I think the "dimmer" on the stereo works only in connection with the headlight switch. If I look closely at the display, I can actually see it dim when I turn the headlights on, and return to brightness with them off.

I've given up playing with this too. Just for kicks, I hooked up my OEM Toyota stereo, and yes in fact the original stereo lights dim correctly when using the cabin gauge dimmer control, so I know I'm not crazy thinking that's how a stereo's dimmer should work :confused::mad::confused:

I have no problem with mine at night. The HU has two brightness settings: The first (brighter) one is when the stereo is on, but your lights are not. The second (slightly dimmer) one is when the stereo AND your light are on.

Not to highjack the thread but I have the same Kenwood HU with the Metra install kit from Crutchfield. Is your HU mounted far back in the Metra kit? It is difficult sometimes to get the faceplate off because it is recessed more than I would have thought.

I just orders that yesterday. Is yours set far back? Is there any way to have the chubby on the top instead of under the radio?

Do you have a 2004? It would probably be different in yours compared to a 2010?
