Im in the middle of wiring bed lights in the back of the truck. I hooked everything up and just tried to turn the lights on but they didnt come on. The only thing that happened was the switch lit up red like its supposed to. Does anybody have any suggestions to the problem?

I think I did. I did the ground just like this guy did. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/22753-how-wire-bed-lamps.html

I'm 99% sure they arent. I'll double check tonight

That could be true. I had to make the lines longer. I ended up having to extend the wire with a wire that was just a hair bigger. Wander if thats the case?

Im just using what came in the package. There were 2 lights, wires, and a switch. I've heard you need a relay in a lot of cases but I figured it should work like its supposed to straight out of the box. Who knows though. I'm very bad with electronics.

ok heres an update of the set up right now.

I relocated both of the ground to really good spot(the switch and lights are sharing the same ground. is that ok?). Its wired just as this pathetic diagram shows. still no luck. as said earlier the switch is lighting up like it should but the lights wont come on

maybe you have it on the wrong terminals at the switch, if it matters. do you have a multimeter?

my switch was not the one that lit up so it might be different, but i had no ground coming off the switch. the only grounds i had was for each light.

Thats weird then. I got my lights at autozone. same brand as yours and everything(pilot). but yeah mine has a ground coming off the switch and then a ground for the 2 lights.

GDC, yeah I have a multimeter. I just gave up for the night. I'll pick back up in the morning. I'm positive the terminals are all in the right spot. I switched them earlier just cuz I ran outta ideas of what could be wrong n tried anyways. Its ridiculous I could take the engine apart n put it back together easier than I could fool with this electric stuff...

so there are 3 male connects on the back side of the switch?

mine only has two, one for the power wire going to battery, and one for the power wires going to the lights (both lights connect to each other and split off as one). then each light is grounded only the the frame, and not the switch.

It's a lighted switch. The ground is for the return for the light inside the switch.
