hey guys, ive had my truck for over 2 years now and occasionally have had problems with the auto start. quite often ive awoke in the middle of the night cause my fog lights turned on randomly. and a few times ive actually had my truck start up by itself. i have a viper auto start. anyone heard of this?

Lowered 3/4, debadged, led tails, projector headlights with hids, billet grill, blacked out windows, painted front and rear bumper and grill shell. Inside, 4 crappy 15's, suede wrapped headliner and door panel inserts, alpine double din, few painted pieces inside, and every led is either blue or white.
I would check all the wire connections, would be a pain to do especially if you didn't install it but it sound like something is possibly getting power when it shouldn't be.

Is that a remote start? Maybe its getting a signal from a neighbor. My garage door did that and we couldn't figure it out till my neighbor opened his door and mine opened at the same time.

These things have a setting that will start the motor when battery voltage drops past a specified level in order to charge it up a tad. If you somehow have that feature enabled and if your battery is weak and it is cold at night, well there you go.

My older Clifford also has a timed start function as described here. If you had inadvertently enabled this it might also do something similar.

3-14 TIMER MODE—TIMED STARTS/TEMPERATURE STARTS: The system will start every 3-hours until canceled

by the brake, hood, or neutral safety shut-down wires (a maximum of 6 times). The temperature start

mode will not start the vehicle unless the interior temperature of the vehicle is less than 0 degrees F. The temperature

start mode will exit after 18 hours

    I call bullshit on that.

You know how many people would be dead because of carbon monoxide poisoning from cars parked in the garage that started up to charge a battery.......

In the winter my garage will freeze bottled water.

Post above should have said "some" RS systems do this. Not saying his specific RS model has it, but some do. Here is a thread that lists several brands and models that do this. Just something else to check before you go digging into the wiring and relays.

thanks for the input guys.yah 1 salesman told me that viper product was recalled. 2 other people now have told me it wasnt recalled. i bought the truck used and there is no info on the alarm system. could be a transformer as that was my initial thought too. as well as thinking someone was stealing it. i live in a rural area so it cant be a neighbors signal. maybe electrical but i dont know.

And here is a link for one DEI RS product that does specifically have a low volt start. I had one similar to this on my last truck which is where I recall seeing the feature for the first time. As I said, just one possible cause to eliminate that would be easy to check.

Might be valuable if you lived in North Dakota and had to park somewhere you that you couldn't plug in your engine heater.

i had several companies refuse to install my remote starter in my stick shift truck because of liability issues. i mean if you left it in gear and you then later remote started it, you could potentially kill someone.

T'would be ugly! Same with timed start. I assume the modern systems require the same interlocks to be installed and procedures to be followed as they do for any manual tranny install where you have to do a certain sequence before you leave the vehicle to be able to remote start it before next disarm. It is like the Windows dialog box that asks "are you really sure you want to delete that file? (remote start this car?)".

do you have the foglight anytime mod? because depending on how you wired it up, that can explain why your foglights turn on randomly
