aal install - need help quick!

Hey guys, i'm in the middle of installing my aal, which i'm putting on top of my overload leaf, but the leafs almost look too long. the end of the new leaf is hitting the brackets that hold the top 3 leafs together. do i need to cut the new leaf shorter? or do i cut the brackets holding the top 3 leafs and install new brackets to hold all 4 leafs? i'm wondering if they sent me the wrong leafs, they are 36" long. thanks for any help!!

Sounds like your existing springs are the up-graded TSB and you rec'd the AAL meant for the as-shipped, original spring.

The correct AAL for TSB from ToyTec is 28" long.

Oh, and you knew that they were not symmetrical, right ?
Long end goes to the rear (when you get the right AAL)

 

yeah, read most of that. i think the leafs are just too long. does anyone know the length of the 1.5" aal used with the tsb?

Depends on the amount of ARC & the quality of the steel that is supposed to "hold" the ARC

 

Damn, that's more than what they cost altogether with shipping. Doesn't sound like it's worth it. I say cut. Measure twice, cut once. Put some sort of coating like POR-15 or equivilent where you cut to prevent corrosion.

 

Sure. I know someone who's done it and has zero issues.

OK, apparently you're at war up there and can't wait to fix you're screwed up order.....

The Deaver (ToyTec) TSB AAL is 28" and it is symmetrical (14" x 14")
The "crown" or arch is 2-3/4".....

So lay out your cuts (14"x14") and place the spring on its side and place a straight edge across the two points.
What does that measure (inside dimension)?

What do you want to bet my impatient Canadian friend has already cut these ?

A word to any Canadian 2 gen Taco owners that want to order an AAL.
Your trucks shipped with what we Americans call the "TSB leaf spring".
The TSB spring is 3 + 1 configuration (3 main and 1 overload)

The ToyTec order form directs you to verify which leaf spring you have.

 

this is interesting. I have a canadian truck and it is a two leaf pack and an overload. Very weak. Negative arch is there. I am still shopping for a lift but am sure whichever one I go with I will replace the rear springs
