    nah, he just got it. i've only ridden dirt bike though, so i don't have a motorcycle license yet.

    i think he said it'll do 75 withough going WOT. i'm sure the range is only around 60 miles though. tiny tank on the thing. but that's what your buddies in the land cruiser are there for right :D

    that husqvarna is a 510 i have ridden a few of them sweet little bikes get a 450 dirt bike and convet it in to a supermotor and your set to go and jason trucks looking good but it looks like its time for a new set of skids

    I've had the abs kick in a number of times. They aren't the best but I feel comfortable driving in the rain.

    I've been meaning to text you. My uncle and I are going to be driving through your neck of the woods the middle to end of May so I'm curious if you're going to be around then.

    Skids are in the works. I've got a 4'x8' sheet of 3/16th out in the garage. It'll be enough to cover from the bumper to the exhaust crossover behind the t-case and then I'll have enough to cover the gas tank too.

    Although it's a crappy chicago tool the reviews are good and I got the 2 year replacement so I figure if I get 2 years out of it it will be worth the $100.

    I just tried that saw. I used two c clamps to hold it in place on the edge of a work table and there was way too much vibration for the clamps to hold it in place. The clamps were as tight as I could get them. I don't think this would be an issue if I could hold it in place better.

    ooooooohhhhh, i'm excited to see the dual batteries. think you'll be done by citrus? for the diagram, it will work as you have it. just make sure you have large enough guage cable where you lengthen cables.

    As long as everything goes relatively smoothly I plan to have that and my skids done by the end of the break.

    Thanks for the help. It is certainly reassuring.

    I figured I'd hook the winch to battery number one since it's the slightly bigger one and when the switch is set to both I'll still get some juice from the smaller one or if the truck is off for whatever reason I can switch it to just battery 1 and not worry about running battery 2 down. And for the ultimate redundancy I'll still carry my battery pack so if I forget to move the switch out of both and run stuff I can still jump off the battery pack.

    I clamped the metal to the table. I was cutting an old edger blade so there's no way I'd put my hand that close to the saw.

    I don't think shears would work. They are more for sheet metal. You'd need a hydraulic metal brake for this stuff.


    I finally finished my dual battery setup. I decided to keep it stupid simple and used a marine switch. I figured it's worked on boats for many many years so it's a proven system. It will be simple to diagnosis any issues and it was also much cheaper than those battery isolators with solenoids and such. I decided to use two diehard platinum batteries. The reviews are good and according to the other forums, they are the same as the odyssey batteries.

    The positive cables stick out like a sore thumb right now but I imagine after a few thousand miles they'll blend in better.

    Not too bad. I moved the abs back a little bit. I welded a couple bolts to the fender and bolted the abs to that. It's not going anywhere.

    redundancy. If I'm in camp or anywhere for that matter and want to use the radio or various other things that require energy I can switch to one of the batteries and have the other on reserve for starting the truck. Also, it's good to have the extra juice for the winch.



    The skids are coming along slowly but surely

    Here's the front part.

    Here's the rear crossmember that goes behind the t-case to support the back of the skids. My goal was to make it strong enough to support the weight of the truck. I was unable to completely lift the truck from it because it was lifting both the front and back about equally so I only got to lift it about 4-5 inches and it held up great to that. The tubing was slightly bowed with the load but the part that I built to make it bolt to the frame didn't budge.

    The tubing in 2"x2" .120 wall and all the plate is 3/16th. I welded a scab to the back of where the plate is to make it 3/8th thick along with the gusset so it should hold up.

    I'm done with the main skid but can't install it because I'm waiting on 2 bolts. Apparently Toyota uses some weird ones to hold the factory skid brackets on and the factory ones were about 2 hairs too short so I had to special order some from fastenal. I'm not sure if I'm going to do the gas tank skid at this point. I have some 886's in the garage I'll probably install after I get the skids on to help with the extra weight. The 885's have settled quite a bit with the bumper and winch.

    if you have enough steel left over for a tank skid, i'd go for it. it'll be simpler to make than the front skid and out gas tanks aren't exactly beefy
