little bird sound from clutch?

I have the Platinum Warranty, but they make me pay for inspections even though I have a zero deductible. Only refunding the inspection fee if they have to fix something. Makes me mad. Anyway, I want to know if I should be worrying about this and take it in, if I can fix it myself, or if I can ignore it.

My truck sounds like a little bird, chirping away. 2006 4.0L with a manual transmission. When I depress the clutch, my truck is absolutely quite, but with my foot off the clutch, I hear a "click, click, click, click," not quite the same sound as the chirping. But they seem to be related. As I drive, changing gears, The clicking changes to a loud "chirp, chirp, chirp" sounds. Is this belt related or transmission related?

In December, I had Toyota look at my clutch pedal. It stuck to the floor as I was trying to shift while driving through an intersection. My truck stalled and I couldn't get it started right away. It was real cold at the time and I've experienced "sticky clutch" on other cold days. Toyota ordered the parts for the clutch pedal TSB, only to find out upon install, that my truck already had the TSB parts installed. They said they greased, and adjusted it. I think, but cannot remember, that this is also when my truck began chirping.

One more question, sitting on smooth level ground and not moving, if I depress the clutch to the floor and shift into gear, the truck lurches foward a little and starts rolling slowly.

All these little quirks make me wonder what's going on. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks, scheduling my appointment now. This will be my truck's 6th visit since December and I just passed 30,000 miles. I haven't been able to enjoy Toyota's quality with this truck. Thankfully I bought that warranty.

Dealership finished the truck today. Said that the pilot shaft had some "scarring" but emery cloth smoothed it out. So all they replaced was the Throwout bearing, a few gaskes and bolts. Based on what others have said, I'll be waiting for it to start squeaking again in about a week because I would bet my pilo shaft is worn and will allow the new bearings to slip.

I've been having a problem with my purchased warranty, it's not on Toyota's books and I have to prove I have it every time I go in. They repeatedly denied me for a warranty repair (I forgot to show them this time) as they claim the throw out bearing is not part of the drive train. I'm pretty sure when something breaks prematurely that should be covered, it won't be part of the drive train. Lawyers are getting too good at writing fine print.

 

Glad to hear chirp is gone. Mine has not come back since going on 2 mos, and no explanation of resurfacing an allfrom dealer. I think if it comes back it will be a while.

Remember, powertrain is 60,000 unlike 36,000 bump to bump...

 

It's back!

Started to chirp over the weekend. So their "fix" lasted 10 months. I have an appointment scheduled for Thursday for Toyota to look at it again.

Also on the to fix list:

Air bag light is illuminated. I had this "fixed" about 8 months ago. They said a plug wasn't seated. Well, I haven't unplugged anything and the light came back on.

Thermometer/compass gauge cluster went black last week. So hopefully having that repaired too.

My extended protection warranty will cover all of this, but the Throwout Bearing is not considered part of the Power Train by Toyota's fine print, so it is not in the 60,000 mile warranty.

 

have you looked under the clutch pedel to make sure there really isnt a little bird under there?!

 

I would, but my floor mat is jammed up there by my stuck gas pedal . . .
