ACC Outlet

I have a 2009 Tacoma TRD "Off Road" double cab. What do I need to do
to keep the ACC outlets on when the key is shut off.

 

It's pretty easy. All you need to do is remove and jumper the ACC SKT relay between pins 5 and 3.

 

I can't finf the "ACC SKT" relay. I looked in the electrical box just behind the battery. There is nothing labeled ACC SKT. A internet post shows it in the bottom right quadrant oif the big fuse/relay box. There is a 100 amp fuse in the top left quadrant that looks like a relay. I pulled every relay one by one and checked to to see if the power went off, it didn't. There are more fuses behind the little drawer driver position knee height but no relays. there is a smaller relay box behind the main box with one relay for the DC to AC outlet.

Wher is the ZCC SKT relay?

BTW This is the 5th Toyota we've owned and it is a huge dissapointment. I will post a laudr list in an other post.

Thanks. I actually already did it and it worked great. Unfortunately, i plugged my phone charger in yesterday and it was no longer working with the engine off. The contacts must have still separated or something. Now i have to do it all over again.

 

just make a 2" jumper with male ends and fold it in half and install in 3 and 5.

This way you don't ruin the relay and can reinstall if necessary at a later date.

 

Sorry for sounding ignorant, but I don't know what kind of 2" jumper you're talking about... and I also don't know what you mean by "install in 3 and 5". If you wouldn't mind explaining, perhaps I could try it.

 

Nope not a prob.
Get a 2" piece of 14 gauge wire. Add 2 male connectors. one on each end

Fold it over double and insert into 2 of the slots where the relay goes...

3 and 5 are the two slots you need.

 

Oh, I see what you mean now. Well, that would actually be a lot more difficult to do. See, I can barely pull the junction box out just enough to get a good enough grip on the relay to wiggle it out. There's no way I'd be able to get the box out far enough to be able to see what I am doing.

I think in my particular case I am better off just trying to jam the relay more effectively. What I used the first time was a tiny piece of duct tape folded a few times over and stuffed under the contacts. I suppose maybe the tape sort of 'settled' and squished enough to allow the contacts to separate. I'll just have to use something more effective. I suppose if I wanted a permanent solution I could just solder the contacts together, but... probably not gonna do it that way.


Oh, I have another question, though. Would it be reasonably unsafe (for me or the vehicle components) to try to do this without detaching the battery? Every time I detach the power, I have to redo all the stuff for turning off the truck's beeps/chimes/honks for the seatbelt and keyless remote, etc. I don't recall having to actually touch any bare wires or contacts, but since I'm not as familiar with this stuff, I'm not sure if that matters.

 

Well it's always a good idea to disconnect. you never know what can happen. Dropping a screw somewhere, ETC.
To be honest i didn't disconnect for mine. HOWEVER, that is up to u. I'm not responsible if something does happen.
I didn't think it was any harder to insert the wire but either way will work.

 

I might as well just disconnect the battery. I still have the printed instructions for the beep/horn disabling stuff in the truck anyway.

Also, it probably would be easy to insert a wire where the relay goes, but as I said, I can't even see in there. I'd be poking around blindly.

Haha! Well, not me. At least not with vehicles. As a computer nerd who's built and rebuilt computers over the years, I can certainly appreciate the blind poking, though.

 

I did this mod again with a piece of a rubber band. It should stay this time.

Question, though. I noticed this doesn't seem to do anything for the outlet in the truck bed. I thought it did last time, but this time it didn't, and now I'm noticing that the guide doesn't mention the bed outlet anyway.

How do I do the same for the bed outlet?
