Came out this morning to glass all over the driveway. Some punks smashed the window and got off with the GPS and cash in the center console.

Guess it could have been worse. I had 2 laptops in the backseat that they missed. They also left my radar detector.

Check out the video of the awesome security of my stock alarm....

    Security Fail!

    That really sucks.

There is a reason why nothing valuable gets left in my truck and if it does its not in plain site. A GPS located right infront of the window is an invitation to thieves. I dont trust alarm systems to begin with. I hear 'em go off all the time and nobody ever thinks twice about it. I'm rigging up a webcam in the window of my apartment to keep an eye on my truck, too many drunk college kids in my complex....

I'm sorry that happened and glad that you did not lose the laptops or have more damage to the truck.

One positive way to try to look at it (I know it's hard, though) is to figure that at least you found out now while they took the gps and not anything more valuable. Now you can act on it and get a better alarm.

My truck did not come with an alarm and I was told that a lot of them did not. I asked why it beeped and he said that it was just a lock/unlock indicator feature. He also noted that a lot of customers get confused like I did and think they have an alarm BECAUSE of the beep.

I wonder how many of us actually have alarms that are stock? If in doubt, go roll down your window, set your alarm, reach in and manually unlock the door and open it. I just did that to check mine and as soon as I touched the interior lock the alarm went off. I didn't even have to open the door.

Yeah, I am PISSED, but it could have been a lot worse. The harsh part is that I was sleeping in the garage last night on the couch so it was only about 5 feet from me. I fell asleep watching a movie and even if the window smash woke me up I would not have thought about my truck, I would have just assumed it was on TV. However IF THE ALARM WENT OFF I would have been out there in a flash.

The neighborhood that I live in is very upscale and my neighbor is a Sheriff, so I did not think twice about leaving the stuff in there. Obviously that will change now.......

Bottom line is, I am going to try to get Toyota to pay my deductible. Fingers crossed!

Maybe I am gullible, however since there is a flashing anti theft light on the dash and THIS sticker on the window I would have assumed that it had an alarm...

Obviously since it did not go off there was not one. What kind of marketing BS is this? Is the flashing light and the sticker the "deterrent"? Shouldn't Toyota let people know that these are the "deterrents"? I would have been happy to spring for the alarm, however I was not told, or given the choice. Now I am going to be out the $500 deductible because of it.....

I personally think that they should pay for it, but I guess that is just me.

Mine had that on the window (I removed it for tint) as well as the red light shaped like a car with a key in it. I think it means the truck LOCKS.

I had my alarm installed by Toyota before I took possession of it. It now has a separate red light by the cubby on the left side of the steering wheel. And as I said before it chirps AND honks.

Does anywhere on your paperwork say it has an alarm? Do you still have the window sticker saved somewhere? If it says you have an alarm, you might have a case there. :)

That "Theft Deterrent" is for someone stealing the vehicle, not a smash and grab. It's that immobilizer chip that's in the key. It means that someone can't hot wire your truck.

Yeah, when I arm my truck it chirps AND the horn honks. I also paid extra for the alarm from the dealership. They all have alarms on the lot but if u don't pay for it from day one then it isn't enabled. Sorry about your loss! Nothing worse than someone invading your privacy or space like that...

Mine is a different alarm than the VIP, I opted out of that one. Also my truck did not have the secondary flashing light prior to installation.

I thought the same thing when I first looked at that text on the window, then I read the manual and understood what it really meant..

Umm, Idk. There's a second one they offer at the dealership. This one has different features.

Yes. They had to program it into the stock fob. I was holding the keys and when I decided not to take the truck home till it was installed, I handed back one set of keys. He asked for the second one so they can program it as well.

Mine has that sticker and flashing light. On the 06 all that means is the truck won't start without the chipped ignition key. So if they had tried to steal the whole truck and punched the ignition, they would not have got it started.

Sorry, Yota ain't paying for sheeet dude. It's called a vehicle immobilizer. Truck is still there, so it did what it was supposed to do. Sorry about the window and your stuff. I do sleep a little better knowing the only way to steal mine is to tow it.
