You'll love the Lansky set Dave. If you've never used one before, it can be a little time consuming to get a good edge on a blade the first time but after that its not so bad.

Oh...and it looks like you need to clean your room ;)

I have a steripen, I love it. I have never been sick, nor has anyone I have been packing with been sick, and we dont use anything but the steripen. Rechargeable batteries are key with them, they last much longer and you get less red lights. Granted I havent tried to clean any really dirty. I am usually getting water out of snowpack fed alpine streams.

I hear this type of response a lot. I guess I am the type that wants to be for sure that the water is being filters and not just having a light shot through it. I would do the Steripen (almost bought one at one point) but there is always that "what if" in the back of my mind.

Yeah, you are still drinking the bugs, but the light is killing them, via DNA distruption. Good enough for me I suppose. Plus they are fast, and I like that.

I have one and I'd agree with that statement. :anonymous:

But it seems to work. I say seems because it's hard to know if anything was in the water to begin with. The other reason I like filters is they remove particulate that might be in the water--the steripen doesn't remove anything from the water. If the steripen batteries die for whatever reason, it's no good. For those two reasons, I prefer a mechanical filter.

There is a prefilter screen that attaches to the lid of a nalgene type bottle that screens the water on its way into the bottle. But it isnt very fine. It gets the big stuff out, like sticks and fish and stuff. I always carry an extra set of batteries too, and since they use AA batteries, I could always use the batteries from my flashlights. I was behind all of everyones arguments, and skeptical, until I used one. Now thats all I take.

well i tested out the mummy liner.....got down to the low 30s...enough for heavy frost and some icy water. i was in my bag for a bit then placed the liner in and WOW. this thing is like a heated blanket. i was skeptical but now i believe LOL. it would also make the ideal summer bag. I dont know what to say other than this thing works (ok so maybe it dosent add 15 degrees to your bag but its close) and its super light and small. any question? lol

What liner did you get again? (too lazy to go back and look). I need a summer bag. BAD. my -10 degree bag is way too hot.
Do you have kids by chance Lisa? Seems moms have super radar detectors for messy rooms. lol

 don't call me ma'am! I hate that....makes me feel old.
No, no kids. He posted the pics on the last page and his room looked a little scattered so I had to point it out.
