Pissed at sorry MPG!

So I've noticed that my gas has been going at an extremely fast rate. I fueled up n am below half a tank with only 148 miles on the tank. I have a 2012 prerunner 4x2 v6, running a 265/70/17. WTF? at this rate if my calculations are close, that means 12 mpg. No i havent floored it. I decided to drive as "normal" as possible to get this reading.

 

there is no way your mileage is that low. That would take some serious foot to the floor. must be a miscalculation or you didnt get the tank all the way full

 

if you're at 190 at 1/2 tank, you're getting more than 12 mpgs.

I'm at 1/2 tank at 140, usually... so you get better mileage than me!

Your calculations are off.

 

Fuel tank capacity is 21.1 gallons. Halve that and your at 10.55. 190/10.55= 18.0094. Fuel gauge is not 100 % on remaining fuel as far as when you are at the 1/2 mark you have 10.55 gallons remaining, But I would say that you could claim 17-19 MPG with reasonable accuracy.

 

I get about 245 to a 1/2 tank. I top mine off to the brim though. After all is said and done, I average 18.5 to 19. Gotta be miscalculating somewhere or I'd be at the dealer investigating

 

4 banger? Cause 24 ish mpg is what you would be at there. Dont think the V6s can get that good outside of 55mph sustained driving. Or the fuel gauge is way off...

 

Yeah no matter how you look at it. Even if you used 12 gallons you're getting over 15mpg.

For arguments sake, my empty light comes on at around 4 gals remaining. So for the sake of it say 17/2 = 8.5

190/8.5 = ~22 mpg

Say you're between 1/2 and 1/4.

17/ (5/8) =10.625 gals

190m/10.625g = ~17.9mpg

I'd say you're likely getting 16 to 20 mpg.

 

14.27 MPG on my last tank. O.D.O. is 650 and i factored in the bigger tires as well (6.66%) but it could be my driving. i have a heavy foot sometimes.

 

No its a 6 but I calculate by how much I put back in. I try to keep it under 2000 rpms at all times though

 

Gotcha. 18-19 seems like a good guesstimate to me. I dont keep it under 2k RPM much so IIRC I get about 16 ish. Less recently due to winter blend fuel.

 

Im already below half with 190 i have about 40% of my tank left. Ill update with my total mileage in a couple days. Thanks for the help fellas.

The tanks are hard to fill the only way you'll be able to accurately check it is to fill it until you see fuel and do the same thing next fill up. That's the kind of mileage I get pulling a travel trailer.

 

miles at half tank is a VERY inaccurate way of calculating MPGs. You need to fill up, track mileage, and then fill up again. Miles/gallons

Seems like with the 12's the fuel gauge reads differently showing less miles at half tank the previous models. Some guys are freaking out...

You can't use the gas gauge to figure the MPG. You must go by how many gallons you have used. Try this, go fill up and drive 200 miles and then fill up again and note how many gallons it took to fill the truck and then do your math. It will more accurately reflect your MPG.
