I was just dreaming of a new Tacoma and wondered if anybody ordered a body style or trim level not available in their area? I'm talking a lot to lot transfer or special order from the factory.
On Toyota's web site, in the build your own Tacoma, the PreRunner Access Cab is not available in the New Mexico zip code. I entered some zip codes from an old address book and found a Wichita KS zip will let me build one (4 cyl only & can't delete the SR5 package). No luck with CA, HI, VA, or FL zip codes.
No I haven't talked to the dealer, I'm just dreaming right now. Tell me your story about custom ordering your dream truck. ;)

    neglect, mostly.
plenty of guys and girls on here make intro threads stating they just went to the dealer and put down what they wanted and had it shipped and picked up in weeks. espessialy in more "remote" places like Alaska and such. That is of course when they want brand new.

I bought mine off craigslist :D

The 2012 truck I bought couldn't be built on Toyota's website in this zipcode.

I just went to the dealer had a talk about what I wanted and we went down the list of trucks in the computer. At the time, my truck was the only one like it in the country, but very few of them had been built yet. ;-)

The salesman had the allocation changed from some place in NC to WI and it was delivered fresh from the factory 8 days after it was born.

I had to order my 2012 TX Pro. I went in told them what I wanted, they looked up to see if there were any out there. There wasen't anything out there so they ordered it. I should have my truck here in a week or so. It has been about 6 weeks so fare.

I ordered a 2012 Double Cab Off Road with the Navigation Package / Tow package etc. Because the Navigation System was not being offered in the "Central Region" at the time of my order my truck came from a dealer in Colorado to Iowa. It was worth the wait... especially knowing I am paying for what I wanted and didn't settle for what was available.

I sell & order these trucks all the time. You can order any type of truck with the available options for that model in any state. The reason you came across the part where you were not allowed to build the specific model was because when you type in your zipcode they base the most commonly sold trucks sold in your area to avoid confusion when shopping. ( IMO its very stupid on Toyota's part). What I would do is create the truck that you are looking for on the site and then print out a few quotes from the internet about the same truck with prices you are happy with and take that to the dealership.

Either way hope it clears the confusion up for you.
