Just recently my taillights were stolen off my Toyota Tacoma. Apparently there was a sweep of many trucks the same night. I'm just glad no other damage was done.

I bought a pair of new taillights and want to install them myself. I thought it would be a straight forward job until I noticed the wiring colors didn't match.

The colors on the Taillight itself go as follow:

    1:Green w/yellow line
    2:Green
    3:White w/ black line
    4:Green w brown line
    5:Red w/ blue line
    6: empty

The colors from the wiring on the truck are:

    White w/ blue line
    Blue
    Blue w/ black line
    Green
    Red w/white line

Help! What colors should go with which? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After market, humanoid. I was going to buy them off Toyota, but they were 167 each and I bought these aftermarket for 85. I'm poor, so I had no choice.

    Yeah, fletchaka, it sucks.

I guess I just need someone with a 2006 Tacoma willing to look at their tail lights and let me know how the wiring goes.

Hey Chris thanks for the response. Where did you get this info?

I'm still a bit confused because some of the colors don't match the ones I posted for the wires coming out of my truck.

Blue is for the stop lamps
Red w/white is for the back up lights
Blue w/black is for the left hand turn signal
Green is for the tail lights

BLUE & YELLOW is for the right hand turn dignal, but I don't have a BLUE & YELLOW.

AND what do I do with the RED w/ WHITE line?

Thanks, dude. I really appreciate the information.

if you really want to get it right, get a test light and test all the wires.

What ever you probe into, will light up when you do a certain thing

FOR EXAMPLE, blue will light up when you step on the brakes.
red w/white will light up when you put the truck in reverse
blue with black will light up when you put the left blinker on
green is for the running lights(tail lights as you put it)

So you have pretty much narrowed it down to all you have left is the red w/white line. Wouldnt you think thats the right hand blinker?

Thanks, I think I'll buy one of those test kits. Any will do?

Anymore answers on the wires are still welcomed. = ) I've also thought about just buying one tail light from the Toyota dealer to check the colors and then returning it.

Are you a wildland firefighter? I used to be one a few years ago.

I got the wire codes from the FSM. You are better off getting a light, and checking the idividual wires out.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll check back if I have anymore questions. I still have to figure out how to wire the harness clip part.

The tail light came with it's harness clip, BUT I had to buy one for the truck's wiring because that was also stolen. So now I have to figure out if I can just splice the wires in slip into the harness clip that I bought for the truck's wiring.

I guess a picture would make more sense. I'll have those by tomorrow, cause my camera won't be charged by the time I have to go to work.

Here are some of the pictures I finally took. Can someone tell me if I just have to splice the wires and slide them in the matching holes in the harness?

    LEFT SIDE:

    RIGHT SIDE:

    Taillight:

    Harness off the taillight:

    :D

The tail light starts with 7 wires and ends with 5 on the harness. Is the white w/ black line ground or running lights? I still need to match them.
