Maybe I just overlooked this thread somewhere else but I am still in question. Say I purchase a used Tacoma, how do I know if it qualifies for any TSB work and how do you go about getting it done, and does it cost anything? New to any kind of recall work and just want to make sure I get it handled right. Thanks in advance for all your help.

tsb work is free if the truck qualifies. For example the tsb for the blower motor is 3 years 36k. same for the springs. Some are longer but it says on the tsb the age and mileage limits.

Reason I am asking is I am getting an 09 with 18k on it and I had read about the TSB's before and with this truck I thought maybe some would apply and I should jump on them before they may run out for this year of truck.

keep in mind its something toyota does if your truck qualifies for it. some dealerships are more lenient than others, but that doesnt mean its cool to complain about a dealership not doing it when you're just looking for a free rear lift.

Understandable, the lift would be nice, but i was seeing about transmission maybe too, just anything that would be in the above mentioned list i totally missed about TSB's. Want this thing to last and if they are willing to make something better I'm wanting them to!

Do you have a problem or an issue with your vehicle? You take it to the dealership and explain to them your issue and they fix it. If a TSB is applicable to fix your issue then they refer to it. I think your misunderstanding Technical Service Bulletins. They are created to help technicians to diagnose and repair known issues that MAY occur on certain models. Just because a TSB is issued does not mean your vehicle will be affected.

Have not gotten the vehicle yet, these are just questions I'm getting answered before something would, but hopefully not, arise. Didn't know if i could ask the dealership if they knew of any TSB work begin performed in the past or not. Have just seen stuff like this floating around on here from time to time and I finally asked about it, always getting great help from fellow TWers.

I have rarely heard of a dealership that will even acknowledge that a TSB exists. I have had to fight for mine. As stated above, if you notice specific issues with the truck, check the TSB list, then (nicely) talk to the dealership about it.

You can go the dealership and have them pull up the vehicle to see if any work of any kind has been performed on it.

The nice thing is the truck i am getting is a one owner truck, bought at the dealership i am getting it from. They seem like very nice people to deal with, but all salesmen are liars lol.

The dealer should be able to call up the history of your vehicle by the VIN number. They would be able to tell you what work has been performed. They won't usually acknowledge TSBs so write down a list of what has been done and compare it to the TSB lists you can find online for your vehicle. If any of them have not been done- see if your vehicle needs them.

Bring them printed with you, my dealer gave me crap the last time I asked about TSBs, they said there were just too many of them to know what my truck needed, and I needed to print them out and come back. I hate my local dealership, they are extremely overpriced and completely unhelpful.

If you log onto the Toyota owners club you can enter your VIN and get the whole work history of your vehicle and what recalls/tsbs were/were not done.

what are the stipulations to getting a tsb done. My truck has over 100,000 so i am wondering if it too late to get some of them done.
