You know, I called DSM and they said that if i bought the 5100 n lifted at 2.5 inches, I wouldn't need UCA. My experience thus far. My next mod is my lift.

    Try it out.

Lift it, align it, see how it feels.

I drove for about six months before I got tired of "skittish" and changed the UCAs.

I would go with the after market UCA. I have the Toyo tech 3" with the 5100 Billies on my 2nd gen. It has been aligned and the shop said it was within specs, it seems the drive and handle fine but on rough roads with a high crown I do get a pulling from the front end. I am still rocking the stock rims with the stock 265 BFG. I do plan on replacing the UCA before I buy new tires and wheels, I am just trying figure out which UCA to go with.

exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hvae over 3500 miles on my tires in 4 months and they still look brand new!!! no tread sloping or anything( Falken Rocky Mountain) and i have a 3" spacer lift up front, diff drop, stock coils and stock UCA's. UCA= money and for desert racers. as long as your not out at high speeds dirt jumping or high speed offroad you should be just fine like me!

Get new UCAs.. I ran stick ones with my icon mid travel, and the alignment was terrible. Then I picked up some Camburg 1.25 unibals. LOVIN it.

I wonder how many people who say they dont have alignment issues with stock uca's do not even know what the specs were when they got the alignment done. They were just told the alignment was done ok!

Exactly. Most hear the shop tech say "We got it PERFECT!" or "IN SPEC.!" and belive them, without actually looking at the print out.

Another Control arm question. With the addition of new UCA's and one of the lifts I have mentioned(OME or Toytec 3") My stock wheels will rub the control arms if I am correct.
If that is the case. Would the spidertrax spacers cure that problem?
Asking to try an curb the cost of new wheels and tires.

It's not the wheels that will hit the uca, it is the tires. And they will only do so if you run 285s or wider. The spidertrax would solve that issue.

Perfect, I was under the impression that it was the top of the wheel. Glad to be wrong :)
    I am running a 265/75 on the stock 16

If running new UCA's, you shouldnt have any rubbing.

Living in a small town I even knew the mechanic who did the alignment and I think still was blowing smoke up ass when he said it was in spec. I asked him for a print out he did not have one. After putting about 1500 mile on the truck since then I did notice the outer edge of the front tires are wearing.

Yup. We have a local member who has a 3" lift, running stock UCA's. I met with him the other day, and despite his truck driving fine, I pulled out a tire gauge, and showed he has 4/32" LESS tread on the outside of his tires, than on the inside. Many people dont like the price of new UCA's, but given the price of tires, the price would be covered by not having the tires wear down un evenly, and lasting longer. Aside from better drivability, and such. Bottom line is, if lifting over 2", its a good investment.
