Yes. I did it. I fully expect some of you to really hate the idea but it was fun and gets guys my age smiling.

Here are some pics and a video of the mod. Didn't cost me too much:

    Arduino board: $45
    LEDs (12): $5
    Scrap CAT5: Free
Time: Who cares? (about 8 hours)

Also, I am certain the red LED's in my hood is totally illegal. I dont plan to turn it on while driving or anywhere around a cop. This is more for when I'm hanging out with someone and I show them.

Let me know what you think.

Video of it before putting it in the hood:

UPDATE: Added video of it installed:

Props on the creativity. I'm assuming you're not planning on showing this off while driving. Cops in my area are tight on red or blue lights

Yea, this is more of a "standing around the truck with a beer" mod.

I never would have thought of using cat5. I did a homelink install and used ribbon cable. Now that I think about it, cat 5 may have been much cleaner!

Yea, someone else suggested that to me and it made the wire management a breeze. Its so easy to work with and compact.

I still need to feed the cat5 through my firewall so I can turn it on/off from in the cab.

I will update the post with a new video of it at night in the hood. I still need to feed the cat5 cable into the cab so I can turn it on/off from inside. Im also considering wiring it to a switch in one of the free buttons.
