Question for you Football people out there.

I don't watch sports unless they have motors involved. The last football game I watched, I was maybe 6 years old.

I keep hearing about this Tebow guy (not sure if that's how you spell it). Seems like he is a douche bag.. But why?

Can someone tell me who the hell this guy is and what is he doing that his name pops up every 30 seconds.

 

everybody has their opinions, but personally i dont think hes a "douche bag". some people probably dont like him because hes gotten cocky since he brought his team to the playoffs for his first year as being starting QB. hes actually a stand up guy, from what i heard hes helping fund the building of a childrens hospital in the Philippines... since thats where he was born

 

He is also super religious. It is bad when someone being religious is a bad thing in America.

Btw, I don't watch Pro football at all and I only watched Tebow play college football when he was playing against Alabama. So I don't know if there is a new controversy about him now or not.

I think its all hype. I agree with the people that say if God is tuning in to football games to decide the outcome we are in trouble

 

People hate Tebow because he succeeds when he shouldn't, and he proves a ton of people wrong, people hate being wrong, thus they hate Tebow. I personally think he's a badass, his whole life people have been telling him he can't do this or that, and he continuously proves that he can. I think a lot of people take offense to his passion for his religion, which is understandable because he does kinda shove it down everyone's throat, but I just kinda look past that and watch him play football, because he is super entertaining.

 

Eh, ever since he hit it off at UF i think he's gotten a little cocky, just my opinion.

 

Who isn't cocky that plays football in the public eye?

 

Tebow himself is apparently a decent guy. He's humble, albeit overtly religious. He makes sure to thank Christ in every postgame interview he does.

I don't agree with all his politics, but there are few people I do.

The problem doesn't lie with Tim Tebow himself. It lies with the throngs of idiots out there who prop him up as the next coming of Christ because he throws a football and has led his team to several "miraculous" comebacks, including this past weekend in the playoffs. Because of his religious devotion, he is a polarizing figure.

Many people are put off by the notion that "God" would waste time by helping a football team win when there are so many atrocities in the world.

In my opinion, being a religious person publicly is annoying, but to each his own. He's not a great football player by any means, but gets the job done, and seems to be an alright guy. People just want something to argue about, and when you blend football and Jesus, you get a volatile cocktail.

When you have TWO networks devoted to 24-hour coverage of the NFL (I'm looking at you, ESPN...), you have to fill airtime somehow. Polarity drives ratings. Ratings drives money. And the world goes 'round and 'round...

The way I look at it, is as long as I don't watch the interviews and only the game, I don't have to hear him trying to shove anything down anyones throat so he's cool by me

 

Im not even sure its the sports channels as much as the mainstream media. They jump in and show Tim Tebow and the only reason they do it is because of his religious beliefs. They spend more time on his praying than the actual game. I doubt the sports channels dubbed "Tebowing". Ive never Tebowed but I have Teabagged

 

Man, the interviews are annoying. It's not even really his fault, either. Mostly he's a humble guy, praising Christ and his teammates for victories, accepting blame when he plays poorly, etc. But the damn reporters are always pressuring him about his beliefs and making shit up like would he run for President.

It's when people try and turn him into something other than an okay football player that I want to throw things at the TV.

 

Meh... he's overly passionate about religion which is fine with me. I don't share his passion but it'd rather have that in the headlines than the crap some of the other professional athletes or celebrities pull.

 

This is kind of true, but the majority of people who watch mainstream television aren't hard-core sports fans (think middle-aged soccer moms).

So they look for a "personal angle" to exploit.

Edit: and "Tebowing" was a Twitter thing. Along the lines of "planking" and "owling."

 

First off he sounds retarded when he talks
Second he can't throw the football for shit.
Third he relies on his defense entirely to much.
And as a positive note, what he lacks in skill he makes up in determination. He's like the kid Rudy in the movie Rudy lol.
Also He's religious which in today's society is becoming more and more un accepted.
