So I was spraying my stock TRD Sport rims yesterday with duplicolor bed liner... And three came out black like this:

But one came out grey like this:

How do I make the grey one black to match my other rims? Do I need to spray more coats? I used the same spray for all of em...

The grey rim was sprayed with a fresh can that was never used before. The others were sprayed with fresh cans and used cans.

I sprayed two successfully at around 4:30-6:00 PM and then the next day during the morning at around 11 we were spraying the last two rims. Thing is, one of the rims came out black, one of em came out grey.

Nah it actually is noticably grey, where as the other rims I sprayed with the same stuff are black.

Also, you might want to think about removing the wheel weights and spraying. Either deal with it now or the first time you change your tires you're goint to have to deal with touch ups.

Would painting more coats help? Should I switch the cans of bed liner?

Hard to tell the difference since one is in light and the other seems to be a darker pic. But the best thing I can say is spray again.

Should I sand the rim down a little? Or a lot? Or not even sand it and just spray over it with more bed liner?

    The better coast
You should get a shot side by side, they kinda look the same to me :notsure: Maybe the difference in light is throwing me off.

Does that stuff come off....that might be a stupid question.....but if it does take it off and buy a NEW can and put it on. Only reason I could think of is the can running out of dye before the can was empty :notsure:.

Were you shaking up the cans as you were spraying?

And you can always plasti-dip it as well if it will stick.

It's noticably different in person. It's truck bed liner. I'm sure if you sanded enough it would come off. I just don't know if I can spray a different can on top of it without sanding, or if I have to sand then spray. And if I do have to sand, how much do I have to sand down before spraying?

I'm gonna try spraying with a different can to see if it makes it black like the other rims,

I would say if you do sand just lightly scuff it. How long has it been since painted? Has it been driven since? If not I don't think it would matter too much. But I do think maybe the first coat might help it darken with the 2nd coat, at least with paint, not sure with bed liner though.

I painted them yesterday, and yes I have driven my truck since. Bed liner takes very little time to dry. But I'll try lightly sanding just to scuff and spraying with a different can to see if it'll darken and match my other wheels.

Good luck. This is why I'm afraid to paint mine, I kinda want to but would rather have another set just in case they get messed up. Another thought though, maybe spray some paint on all 4 on top of the bed liner to make them all match?

You mean like spray wheel paint ? I kind of wanna stick with the bedliner because it's so easy to work with, at least for me. I just wanna spray more coats with a different can to make it match

Just whatever kind of paint, It's just a thought. I'd try the liner again first.

Yeah I have no clue why it came out so grey. I've used this stuff for my truck bed and my other three rims and it came out black like it was supposed to. For some reason my one rim came out grey, and it's not like really dark grey, it's a straight grey. Weird, but I'll try to fix it tonight by spraying with a different can,
