What would you pay for BEAVER?

Not sure how many trappers we have here on TW, but hopefully one of you guys has had to deal with nuisance beavers (no not a crazy ex-girlfriend).

I do have trapping experience and have trapped beavers before, but my question is about price. I am managing a piece of property for a guy and need to get rid of 2-6 beavers and destroy 2 ~30' dams. The problem is I don't know what to bill him!! I just want to make sure both he and I are getting a good deal. Yes, I have searched the web but no one lists prices.



Ok, I'll throw some labor details out just some you guys can brainstorm a ballpark number with me.

Setting 6 - 12 traps @ 20mins a piece
Removing 2 Dams @ 3 hours a piece
Clean up and Disposal @ 30 min per dead beaver

The whole job will probably take a minimum of a week but it will only be a one visit per day. I'm thinking $300-$500 bucks depending on how many beavers. What do you guys think?

Wow. It's funny how issues vary from region to region. The closest animal I have had to deal with here in southern California is a gopher.

I just stick the hose in their hole. Give them about 10 seconds before they can't breathe and have to pop up somewhere for air.

 

then its just the old arcade game, whack-a-mole!! Gophers sound like fun.

 

I use to stick small dynamites

 

I have to big a heart to play real life whack a mole. So I just toss them in the neighbors yard.


Dynamite!? Of word gets around between gophers you will never have gopher problems ever again.

Two thirty foot dams?

If you're doing it by hand and they are holding much water I think you have far underestimated the time it will take to remove and clean the area where the dams are concerned.

How do you plan to remove them?

What type of tools will you have?

Will the blocked water way be able to move most of the debris away or will you use another method to dispose of it?

How large is the creek?

How large are the bodies of water they retain?

How large are the timbers?

How rugged is the terrain around each dam?

Having done similar work on my own property in the past it pretty much ranks a 00 an my fun scale.

 

The creek channel is about 36-40" deep and 8-10ft wide. The trees used to build it average 3" in diameter. I can near bout drive my truck to the dams well within winch range. I was trying to figure out a way to use my truck to rip them open. And I will only be removing the larger timbers from the water and letting the little stuff be.

 

For any job I do, I estimate my time to be worth ~$30/hr.

Obviously, it goes up for specialty skills (computer programming, video production, technical drafting, explosives), equipment rental (cameras, lights, chainsaws, power washers) or if it's just nasty, nasty work you'd have to pay me a ton of money to do.

Price goes down if it's just manual labor, favors, barter, or if I'm trying to bang the chick hiring me.

For me, a typical day rate (10 hours) is about $400 w/equipment.

Figure out how long it will take you to finish the job, what the potential costs to you are, and what you're comfortable charging and go from there.
