    They won't... They should stay in the ACC and win it every year that FSU doesn't.

    They were one of the founding members of the SEC in 1932, but left after a disagreement b/w their coach and Bama's (Bear) in 1964. They applied to re-join, but were voted down, largely due to lobbying by UGA.

    For VT to have a chance at the NC I think Beamer must leave. Let Bud Foster command the ship. He is MUCH more aggressive, and will result in a boost to both the D and O side of the house. Beamer has lost his edge and at times looks very confused!! There, I said it!!

    We were also I believe in the "founding members" group as we were in the Southern Conference from 1921-1965.

    A lot of it has to do with tv markets...the SEC doesn't gain any by adding Clemson...there is also the $20million fee that Clemson will owe the ACC if it departs

    The Southern Conference was the predecessor to the SEC, ACC, and current SoCon conferences

    Charter members of the Southern Conference were:
    Alabama
    Auburn
    Clemson
    Georgia
    Georgia Tech
    Kentucky
    Maryland
    Mississippi State
    North Carolina
    North Carolina State
    Tennessee
    Virginia
    Virginia Tech
    Washington & Lee

    A year later the following schools were added
    Florida
    LSU
    Mississippi
    South Carolina
    Tulane
    Vanderbilt

    18 of those 20 schools are now in the ACC or SEC




    20 schools...and people complain now that 16 is too many :laugh:
