Suspension modification questions

Hello,

I historically set my Tacomas up as expeditionary vehicles. Sometimes it is just me and my young son. Others,it is four people with a tremendous amount of gear.

I need to make long interstate runs to rough secondary roads, to offroad in snow, mud and sand.

My crew cab is wallowing on its suspension like some of my other tacomas in the past. What set up allows comfortable interstate, to high speed off road running with, and without alot of weight?

expedition needs beefy springs with a high load capacity.

have you considered LT?

 

id say a nice mid travel set up... i have mid up front and hit the dunes at 70mph+ and it takes it.

I have an OME setup all around and it rocks!

I drive highway al lot and on road 90% of the time, but the other 10% is some pretty off-road stuff. The truck actually has improved on road characteristics and feels solid at 90mph.

Off road is a massive improvement. The soft squishyness is gone and the truck smoothly rides over badly rutted and washboard fire roads with ease.

It is the best investment I made. Has literally transformed my truck into a different vehicle.

Oh, and I carry lots of gear. Sometimes I tow a tent trailer. Yes, a high clearance off-road trailer. And have roof racks loaded with stuff, a Fiberglass shell with wooden platform inside for the dogs and iron cookware and other crazy stuff crammed in as well.

Takes the weight easily. And performs well unloaded also. Amazing! I tell you I swear by this setup. There are better offroad packages (aka Icon) but OME is terrific and practical in 100% of your driving conditions, esp if you use as daily driver as I do.

 

I have heard good things about OME, too. But down here there is also alot of Bilstein and Fox setups. Do any of these allow sag, rebound, and compression adjustments?

 

No, OME does not have that. You'd want a mid travel setup then. Maybe Icon?

OME is sealed and no adjustable. There are several product options with different load and handling characteristics, but once installed it's set at one place. This link has some good details on the OME.

 

OME is shim-adjustable.

OP, look into a full OME system. I think it will serve you well.
