My hammock is about 7' long. It would be ok but probably not the best. I may use it just as a cover to sit under if it rains/ keep my crap dry and throw some firewood under it. It tends to rain every time I go backpacking these days... Last time it was sunny the whole damn week and as soon as I got there it started down pouring and went on the whole weekend.

Seriously, I will honestly need to pick up some new gear before spring. I am not like you crazy people out sleeping in the woods in the middle of winter!

:D Winter time is the BEST time to camp imo!! haha just have to prepare for it and wear the right stuff! If you have the right gear and clothes... weather in the teens (at night) really isn't too horrible.

Ha, nothing with it in Jacksonville, but for winter hiking and fly fishing (I went to Arkansas in February last year, talk about fucking cold water) that shit would be amazing! I need a good coat for when I travel for work too, but I don't think down will look formal enough :(.

Check out http://hennessyhammock.com/catalog/rainflys/ I have the Hex in 70D poly and ya it's big but it's so nice to be able to put it into porch mode and you can't beat $60.

It is heavier that say a cuben or Silnylon but I don't mind to carry 4 more ounces for $70 less compared to the silnylon or a cuben of the same size would be much more price difference. As far as durability it's good I'm going to sew some tie out points on the sides just to tighten it up a bit.

Yeah it looks a bit heavier. the current walmart tarp I am using is about 7oz heavier than that Hex tarp.

Side note. Just purchased a Katadyne Hiker water filter and some adapters to fill my camelback bladder via the hose. I will throw an initial review up when I open it up and everything.
