Edited to preface; I completely support this country and our armed forces...thank you all for serving. A few Marines have gotten my attention, remember, you are on a world stage.

I don't care who you are or the circumstances involved, or who the combatants are...you simply do not disrespect the deceased in such a manner for the world to see. Simply atrocious.

    http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/11/us/video-marines-urinating/index.html

Washington (CNN) -- A number of websites including TMZ and YouTube posted a video Wednesday showing four men dressed in U.S. Marine Corps combat gear urinating on the apparently dead bodies of three men sprawled on the ground in front of them.

One of the men says, "Have a great day, buddy." A voice asks, "You got it on the video?" to which another voice responds, "Yeah." Another jokes, "Golden, like a shower."

It was not clear who shot or posted the 39-second video, who the people pictured in it were, or where it was shot.

A senior Marine Corps official who has examined the video said the Marines are carrying 30-caliber sniper rifles and wearing helmets issued to members of Marine Corps sniper teams. The helmets are designed with a shorter front and sides so that snipers can place rifles and scopes near their faces.

The official, who said an investigating officer was expected to be named shortly, added that the desecration of a body by U.S. troops could be considered a potential war crime.

"We recently became aware of an inappropriate video on a public website that appears to involve members of our military," International Security Assistance Force spokesman Col. Gary Kolb said from Kabul, Afghanistan. "We will not speculate on the details but will take all necessary actions to determine the facts."

He said an investigation was under way but would not comment on the video's authenticity. The faces of the bodies are not identifiable.

"While we have not yet verified the origin or authenticity of this video, the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps," said U.S.M.C. Media Officer Kendra Hardesty. "This matter will be fully investigated and those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. We are in the process of verifying what unit these Marines are with right now and as soon as we have more information, we will let you know."

"Regardless of the circumstances or who is in the video, this is egregious, disgusting behavior," said Department of Defense spokesman Capt. John Kirby. "It's hideous. It turned my stomach."

In a statement, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the video. "If verified as authentic, the video shows behavior that is totally unbecoming of American military personnel and that could ultimately endanger other soldiers and civilians," wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

"Any guilty parties must be punished to the full extent allowed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and by relevant American laws."

CNN's Barbara Starr contributed to this story.

I agree with the OP to a point. These guys are under a ton of stress, they are getting shot at, seeing friends die and other horrors that I can't imagine. While I don't condone pissing on dead people I tend to cut them a lot more slack than I would a lot of other people. I realize this is a double standard but I don't care.

Not taking anything away from you guys and what you have to go through for our country.

    I know war is ugly...

The other side commits way more disgusting acts, two wrongs don't make a right.

Just shouldn't film it I guess.

I guess I have a certain regard for the dead. I would not hesitate to end another man's life, if it were him or me. But, that's it he's dead, you killed him, no need to piss all over his dead body like a savage

Should U.S. forces not be held to a higher standard? We should look to the enemy for our code of conduct?

WRONG AND AN UNACCEPTABLE ANSWER. I am combat arms, I have multiple deployments and for any service member to imply that this is acceptable brings great discredit to us.

Your comment that they do way worse than us means nothing. Their immoral actions DO NOT illicit the same from us.

This is a disgusting, unprofessional act that does nothing but tarnesh the armed forces. There is no arguing with my statements I am right and if you think this is acceptable its time for you to get out and see a shrink. Their behavior should not drive ours, we have our agenda, they have their.

Agree 100 percent. You might want to sit down and have a talk with your CO about your feelings.. It is disgusting to do this wether you are in uniform or not!! We wonder why we are having such a difficult time making and headway over seas. This is why. I am sad that CNN would even make this a issue, the media should let the MJS deal with it .

no, pissing on a dead body is wrong. Soldiers should be professional and moral. Without that they would slowly decline into malicious and vial creature with no regard for right and wrong. This act is wrong. I personally hate afghans but have enough respect for myself and orginzation not allow their actions to influence me. War is affect you personally but it is not personal. We have a job to do, if you cant do it correctly leave.

Why and how are you on your 5th tour? My brother just came home from his tour over there, and no one does more than two. exceptions might be logistical and air support.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This is exactly how I feel regarding this and glad it was backed up/validated from an enlisted man. You sir, have a good head on your shoulders...we need more like you! There is NO JUSTIFICATION for this behavior.

This thread will not end well.

    IBTL

And I don't have to be in the military to know that what they did was disgusting. I don't see how anyone could disrespect a dead body like that. The fact that they video taped it was one thing (not good), and they fact that they posted the video online for the world to see is another thing (really, really not good).
