Thanks for the link CD. Now I'm really dejected. The diesel tow rating is just under 5000 pounds. That really stinks. I'm in need of a diesel that can pull 10,000 pounds to haul my "skid steer". I'll have no choice but to switch to a Dodge or the most hated Ford. Dont know what to do.

Though my Taco is rated to pull 6500 pounds, it does it with much difficulty on hilly terrain. A full tank of gas disappears in under 160 miles.

yeah, you really need a Tundra or Tundra HD (diesel) that is coming out. The Hilux and Tacoma are still considered medium to light duty trucks. Don't hold your breath on the Tundra HD, though. Toyota is being very hushed about it. It could still be another 3-4 years out.

Personally, I am not going to wait any longer. I don't need anything that big, so I am talking with Todd Herman with Diesel Toyz (here in San Antonio) about putting a diesel engine in my Tacoma. I hope to get it done by the beginning of 2009.

Todd is a miracle worker that has been putting diesel engines in Toyota trucks for several years now. I don't think he has done a Tundra yet, but he has done many of the lighter duty trucks. If you would like some information, you can contact him at info@dieseltoyz.com.

    Updated information:

Honda is now planning on putting the iCTD-i engine in the Acura TSX instead of the Honda Accord. Also, Nissan has moved their engine up to the Maxima instead of the Altima. Both vehicle/engine combinations are expected out in late 2009. Also that year, Subaru plans to release their 2.2L boxer diesel in the new Forester to the United States.

In case of a national emergency/fuel shortage, would it be easier to source gasoline or diesel? Should a scarcity arise, wouldn't you think that diesel sales will be limited or restricted to critical or essential vehicles only, such as delivery trucks, govt vehicles, EMS, Fire etc? What's your opinion fellow "diesel-ers" :ballchain:

I think all fuel will be either rationed or limited. I can't make gasoline in my back yard, and I can't run a Toyota engine off Ethanol blends higher than 5%. I can make BioDiesel in my back yard, and I can haul more that 40 gallons of it on my vehicle without a special permit (in all 50 states).

I certianly hope you can because here in New England ALL the gasoline containes 10% ethanol which is supposed to be safe for all gasoline engines... Well except for some issues with 2 strokes.... and what the hell it's destroyed some marine engines. But that's not really important because it's saving us from global warming right? /sigh Don't get me started again. :frusty:

Anyway I'll go check out the petition and sign it if it's not too late because I DO like choice.

edit: Petition signed! First guy in RI to buy one owes me a ride!

I was told by a Toyota representative that Toyota engines aren't engineered to run off of higher Ethanol blends. Apparently the Ethanol based fuels don't have a component that helps them disperse water. The Toyota engines can run on the Ethanol blends, but they can develop issues from the water in the fuel (if it is present and there usually is).

Thanks for signing the petition!
