Go get one, best purchase for my truck ever. My mileage is usually between 17-18 MPG, so not much worse than before the S/C. I would give up 1-2mpg just for the enjoyment of driving with it. If you pull anything with your truck your MPGs will be better than without one from what I've seen. Don't know about engine life, I've only got about 37,000 miles on my truck and only 5000 with the S/C. Also get the URD supergrip pulley for it, you will not be disappointed.

Local guy has over 300k on his 06 with a S/C and he drives the crap out of it.
Do it! I am very pleased with mine. When I keep my foot out of it my mileage is 1-2mpg better with the S/C than without. Check out the thread "6 cylinder towing review".

I put a TRD supercharger on my 06 Tacoma TRD 6spd back the summer of last year. Im not sure why but, I use to get about 305 mile's on a tank of gas before the low fuel light comes on. Now, I get around 325 335 on tank before the light comes on. Hope this helps.

This isn't the first time I have heard of people seeing a slight mileage increase.

I am not sure of the specifics, but it might be a mixture of running higher octane and not being in boost, or boost helping in all the right areas (hills).

I dropped from 17-18 mpg to about 15-16 now. Mostly city driving. Or from 300 mpg per tank to about 260. I still love my charger though, on the days i do mash the throttle i still don't use as much gas as i predicted.

Gravedigging this thread, since as a topic there is ongoing relevance.

I had a TRD supercharger installed to my 2007 XRunner, spring 2014. Mileage on-install was 93,176, per my records. Location is Seattle, WA.

On a bit of research, one of the Seattle area dealers told a great story about installing these things monthly to various Tacos and etc. Did a bit of cross-referencing and seemed legit. He had several in-stock, in fact, lending a bit more credence to the story: they don't seem to gather dust at this place.

We worked out a price, with installation, that was...how shall I say this, since "cost" is subjective...I'll go with "non-trivial, but neither a surprise based on cost of unit, labor, etc." I knew all that going in, the estimate listed details. I'd received a decent signing bonus from Big Software Company(tm) about that time, and this was my splurge.

Now, in my case, I did not "need" the TRD kit. I tow nothing and put moderate mileage on my XRunner for commuting and other general-purpose. I raced motorcycles three seasons in the 1990s, plus know a bit about driving cars fast in closed-courses, so I'm not impressed with slow stuff. The stock 4.0L is not slow. Neither is it quick. I'd call it...adequate. Well, now with the TRD supercharger kit it is: adequate +1.

Installation went fine. That was about 3.5K miles ago.

Ups: it's quicker, obviously. Not radically so. HP numbers are well-documented online. Ditto torque.

Downs: per the ODBC II dongle I usually keep plugged in (BlueTooth), my mileage is down to 16-17mpg around town, from 17-19. My commute, bulk of the miles, is partial side streets and a bit of freeway (30 miles r/t, 4 days/week). Premium gas only.

Longevity: I'm guessing this thing isn't overstressing the engine by any stretch. Time will tell. I intend to keep this truck until hell freezes over, barring disaster. I'm deeply suspicious of any normally-aspirated engine that doesn't make 100hp/liter of displacement, since that's not super-hard to do anymore while still maintaining longevity. The stock 4.0L is making what, 60% of that? I doubt it's working terribly hard. Redline is pretty low. Seems like an all-purpose engine built and tuned as much for torque as hp.

I've read of a few guys, on this forum and elsewhere, with higher mileage plus the kit. How big is the sample size? One, how many people drive them more than 150K miles; and two, of the previous, what are the experiences of TRD supercharger-equipped vs. not? That's the germane question. I don't have all the answers, obviously.

Is it "worth it" or "should you do it." Wow. From the day I took delivery, brand new Thanksgiving 2006, to seven years later I simply said: Nah. Putting the TRD big brake kit on my XRunner before it so much as left the showroom was an obvious splurge that paid huge dividends from Square 1. The TRD supercharger, less-so. Money fell from the sky, so I went for it. It's now more-fun. XRunners are a hoot stock (+real brakes) or with TRD supercharger. What do you want out of the experience with your Taco?

I have a "non-equipped". Not sure what kind of experiences you are looking for though. Good choice with the BBK upgrade. Although, it should have come like that from the factory, as well as at least the option for a rear disk factory upgrade......XR braking leaves more to be desired, than PreRunner/4x4 braking.

Best thing i ever did with this truck, makes me love it even more!

Pros - wayy faster, +1 mpg,
Cons - a little pricey, much noisier with clatter (not the whine)

Worth it, makes it actually driveable as it's easy to forget how underpowered they are stock

Pros: helps in higher altitude, easier to merge through traffic

Cons: pricey, requires premium fuel, depending on your foot: mileages may vary.
