My Wheels are here!!!

My wheels are here 17x9 Procomp Series 608 4.75" Backspacing!!!

I will be going to the tire shop later to get them install in some 285/70/17 BF AllTerrains, I am a litle bit worried about it, I am just hoping that all this works great for me!!!

I will get some pictures of my truck if all this goes OK!!

 

How much are you lifted and what year is your tacoma 2005+?

What is a series 608? All the pro Comps from the site I bought mine from are all 4 digit model/series numbers.

With that offset you have a good chance of rubbing on the inner suspension parts and for sure at the back of the fender. Unless you are lifted 6" I'm almost positive you will rub on both inner suspension and the shock arm/spindle or whatever it is at the back of the fender well.

I ordered Pro comp model 1069 16x8" 4" back space and with that model wheel I will need to grind the brake caliper a tiny bit to get the spoke section to clear, which I'm ok with doing. I've seen pics of it done and very tiny amount.

I will be running 285/32"s With my offset there is zero chance I will rub on the inside of the tire and a 50/50 chance I will rub lightly on the mud flap, without any lift, which I will be removing anyway. Once that's removed, it gives me about 3/4" more room, plus the lift on top of that.

with your wheels your inside rim edge will be 3/4" closer to the suspenion and stick out 1/4" more on the outer edge than mine. You MIGHT be ok with the inner clearance but seeing how you are running 33's, You will for sure end up with rubbing on the rear of the wheel well. Even with a 3" lift, no chance your outside won't clear the shock spindle with 33's. You will probably have to grind down your spindles or get different wheels or smaller dia. tires or body lift.

another guy is running 33's with a 3" lift and his offset has his outer rim edge 3/4" more tucked in than yours and he rubs on the mud flap.


I made this way more confusing than it needed to be. LOL

Hopefully I'm totally wrong but let us know how it goes.


EDIT. Actually one thing I overlooked is your putting the same tire tire on a 9" wide wheel not 8 like the other guy, so you should be fine on the inside clearance because your sidewall buldge will be noticably less.

But the back of the fender will be interesting to see how that works out.

Bad News Guys...

I went to the tire shop and happened what you said that It will happen chad68, actually when they try the new whell with 285's it was to freaking close of rubbing, I mean if I take out the front mudflaps it wont rub, so they told me that I could have some big time rubbing issues when I am off roading...so I decided better to go with a smaller tire, I ordered 265/70/17 BF AllTerrains. And as far of suspension rubbing issues, I didn't have any, the wheel cleared that ok!!

But god damn it, my truck looked good with those tires and wheels, I want it those 285's so bad!!

So I will just wait for the tires to get here

And about those wheels, yes they are ProComp Forged Wheels Series 608, and I got a heck of a deal on those, 900 dlls on the door!!! And It was the last set that they had, so I got lucky!!!

 

A 265 tire will be pretty stretched/tacky looking on those 9" wheels. plus a 265/70 will only give you about 1/2" more clearance.

That metal shock mount thing behind the mudflap, how much of it would you have to grind away to get the 33's to not rub on it?

Is there any chance you could grind about 3/8 to 1/2" off the outer end (just the section the tire hits) of it where the tire hits/rubs and not compromise the integrity of that piece?

Don't know how bad you want to use those 33" tires but I was thinking you could probably grind it down to clear the tires, then run a couple of weld beads on the backside to reinforce the strentgh if needed. Then throw on some touch up paint to prevent rusting of the welded and ground areas.

 

Another option would be to run the swamper TSL's I am going to use.

They are 11.5" wide which is the same width as your 285's but the diameter is only 31.5" So if your 33's measure a true 33" diameter, with the swampers, you would gain 3/4" more clearance because the swampers measure only 31.5" diameter. This is what I would do as opposed to grinding, unless you only need to grind a little.

Edit. Never mind I forgot you have 17" wheels.

 

I was trying to figure how the hell you got those wheels for that price, then i saw you must have bought them from the same site i did. Buy 2 get 2 free plus free shipping. that site has crazy sales on right now.

I hope you can make those wheels work. I'm trying to find some other tires that will give you the same width but smaller diameter but it's really tough, especially in 17". Besides I'm bored waiting for UPS to drop my wheels off today.

 

Dude I think i found your answer. These are exactly the same style as yours but they're polished not chrome Pro comp series 108.

The size is what you need. 17x8" with 4.5" BS. plus they are less than yours, so if you have to shell out the money to return them or sell them, the price diff will make up some of the cost.

In case this doesn't come thru it's from the same site you bought yours from, I'm suming.

I tried a 265/70/17 Goodyear Wranlgler All terrain tire in those wheels too, and it was ok, no has good as the 285's, but still it looked good. and no rubbing issues at all, the truck is brand new so I dont want to do trimming.

But I think that the BF all terrain are better looking than the good year, that is why I ordered them!!!

thanks sir, but the wheels weren't an issue, is most likely the tire, it was to big, the 265/70/17 didn't have any issues at all, is just that is smaller!!!

the rubbing wasn't in the inside of the suspension parts, is was on the fender!!!

 

I just went with the cheap Pro Comp cast wheels polished seires 1069, in 16x8" with 4" BS. $490 total.

Ok Guys, I finally got my tires and wheels on my truck, and I am loving it!!

I ended up installing the BFG All Terrain 265/70/17 and ProComp Series 608 17x9 Wheels with 2.5" Toytec Front Spacers.

I will be taking some pictures soon.
